Windows 7 Will Automatically Update Your Games

A new post at ThinkNext shows off a number of new features for the latest, upcoming Windows Operating System, Windows 7.

One of the interesting pieces revealed was a screenshot showing how Windows 7 will now automatically search updates for games you have installed on your system.

This sounds like an interesting new feature that will be included in Windows 7.

The Games Explorer in Vista lays the groundwork for that. It already tracks version number, publisher and some other stats. It seems like a logical progression to manage updates as well. I wonder if that will be in Vista SP2 or only 7...

Well it will just notify you and direct you to downloads, but thats enough if you ask me. I already like using the Games Explorer, the only missing thing so far is adding own games with information and a nice cover.

So far you're only able to do that with this freeware.

But itd only do it for those Games for Windows ones right? The only one of which I have is CoH. And thats not exactly hard to update...

I like the idea of notifications, but based on their past history I don't think I'd let Windows do anything (ie. make changes/install updates) automatically.

Nope, that's not the same. Nearly every new game is supported by the games explorer, even very old games like fallout are.

Hmmm, really now... I must get out my old Red Alert 2 disk and install on my Vista system to give it a try. I'm coming for you, Yuri. LOL

I do like the Games Explorer feature in Vista and I'm looking forward to MS refining it with more functionality. But, like Whiskey wisely points out, I'm not letting MS auto-update anything on my computers! That's asking for it!

As already said, it is just a notification that an update is available, nothing more. :)
