Both Toshiba and Sony will begin to manufacture a 45nm sized Cell processor in 2009. A smaller chip means decreased production costs, less power consumption, and less heat output.
As Engadget reports, this now opens up the possibility that a redesigned PS3 may be released at some point in the future. A slim model, if you will, that will run a lot cooler than the current models do.
