Counter Strike 1.6 Beta

We have seen Day of Defeat Source receive Steamworks support, but now is the turn of Counter Strike 1.6. If you are an owner of CS 1.6 you can install the beta version now.

Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta
• Integrated Steam Community features into Counter-Strike
• In-game player name now automatically uses player's Steam Community name
• Avatars are displayed on the scoreboard)

Other Fixes
• Prevented some cvar exploits (thanks to AnAkIn for pointing them out)

WoW from wher did this came up ? was hoping for css beta though. Now only if i can find the game on the basement full of spiders and nasty things xD

It's good that they integrate the whole community stuff into their older but still healthy games, hopefully DoD is next. :)

I think there is going to be some sort of "update" to CSS although it might be a whole new Counter Strike. However Valve are probably too busy this year with L4D, and then with any luck Episode 3 next year :awes

I think there is going to be some sort of "update" to CSS although it might be a whole new Counter Strike. However Valve are probably too busy this year with L4D, and then with any luck Episode 3 next year :awes

Even though I'm not a huge CS fan, I gotta say the prospect of a new Counter Strike makes my mouth water. Hopefully they can learn from their mistakes and further balance the weapon & buy systems. Also, I hope they introduce some new concepts into it, though of course nothing too major, don't want to see all the QQ threads on the steam forums. (Ah, who am I kidding, there's going to be rants on steam forums no matter what they do)

I'm really looking forward to what original mods they can make with the new CS, as zombie mod will be rendered pretty much obsolete by L4D (which I am fervently looking forward to).

Anyway, at the very least I hope these changes come to CSS soon. Any word on achieves?

We discussed this a while ago. It doesn't seem likely that CSS will get achievements. It isn't really an achievement kind of game.

DoDS got achievements and it isn't an achievement kinda game either.

CS 1.6 is Valve's most played game so it's good that they give it some updates as well. The CSS update will come soon, it's unsure if it will get achievements but most likely it will be ported to the Source 2008 engine like DoDS did :)
