Conversely, there are people who make a living off of being "professional gamers" in various games. So anything is possible.

Just because people do it, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I mean, what does Wendel the ****er do when he's too old to compete competitively in gaming. He might get a basic job with game devs, but the wage in peanuts.

I think it's almost safe to say that by the time he starts to suck at what he does, he can still live fairly comfortably with all that he's earned in winnings and endorsement deals. I'm not saying it's an extravagant lifestyle, but for some it's just what their "calling" is.

Well, in the UK, $500,000 = £250,000

£250,000 / 7 years = £35714/year

£35,714 is enough to live on, but is not really good. For some people that might be plenty, i guess it depends on who you are. I would hope when i get into serious work in a few years to be earning double that or more.

Maybe i just have high expectations. Also, remember that he has absolutely no job security. He is purely on commission. He gets paid to play well and if he doesn't, he gets no tournament money and no sponsorship money.

At least with a standard job there is a bit of security.

Someone cares or they wouldnt of posted the thread. Its still quitting school, because whatm the reg school is 7 hours or 8 to go to class, home school could be 4, and then he plays GH? Its a joke.

who cares how much money he gets. If he loves what he does and gets any sort of income from it then its worth it to him. And hes getting home schooled more then likely learning twice as much then he would in a public school.

Well if he's winning prizes and cash for doing this, why bother? Seems like the investment in real instruments would set him back a lot more than if he continued doing what he's doing.

Not that I support such nonsense, but I'm just saying.

That and the fact that Guitar Hero skills do not translate to Guitar skills. They're two completely different ballparks, and being able to hit a homer out of one doesn't guarantee you can do the same in the other.

I'm surprised there's such a huge interest in GH :O I know you can win a lot of cash at CS & Quake LANs but this came as a surprise for me.

Although letting the kid drop out of school is just bad parenting even if he gets some education at home. If I didn't have to go to school I'm sure I'd try to go pro as well but I want to become something and I'll study for it

And what can that kid do when he won't get any more money from GH competitions? He can become a garbage man at most (at least here in Sweden, stop studying after 15 and you're screwed)
