GTA IV in Hot Water in Thailand

IGN has posted up a new article today about a GTA IV distributor in Far East calling for a ban following a murder incident. Take a look:
The distribution of Grand Theft Auto IV in Thailand could be halted following the confession of a teenager who claimed he robbed and murdered a taxi driver while trying to recreate a scene from the game. According to Reuters, Thai game distributor New Era Interactive Media has requested that shops pull the game from their shelves following the incident, with the company offering to replace it with other games should they co-operate.

An 18-year-old high school student is in custody after Thai police arrested him on Saturday night when he was found driving a taxi backwards down a Bangkok street with the wounded cab driver in the backseat. If the teenager is found guilty of robbing and murdering the 54-year-old cabbie he faces death by lethal injection.

The youth, who has been described as an obsessive player of Grand Theft Auto, apparently confessed to the crime as a result of playing the game, with chief police investigator Veeravit Pipattanasak adding: "He said he wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game." However, according to newspaper reports the suspect admitted he didn't mean to kill the driver, but stabbed him to death when he fought back.

Whether the ban of the game will be enforced across the whole of Thailand remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Rockstar declined to comment on either the ban or the murder.

Looks like it wasn't that easy... If you drive far away from the cops in real life your wanted stars don't go from 3 to 0.

Yes, if you stab someone in real life they will bleed or die!

                  Friggin' moron.

He's blaming the game because he can't take the blame himself.
I hope he gets what he deserves.

Instead he'll get tons of media attention, Take-Two will come under fire, Jack Thompson will try to get his smug self on every media outlet available, and... life will then go on until the next "Blame it on the game" event occurs or GTA: Chinatown Wars comes out.

My girlfriend was telling me a while back, back when she was playing Burnout something or another all the time, she would be driving to Walmart or the grocery store and would start thinking about driving her car like she was playing burnout. That however just says alot about my taste in women :p

I think it's safe to say that gaming is just one of those things that parents need to monitor. If a kid has psychological issues, they probably shouldn't be playing GTA4....or really any sort of violent game. I'm not gonna bother to read the article, fact I think I'm going to go play some GTA4 :yay:, but I'd imagine this kid was mentally disabled or at least had some sort of psychological problem.

He could have called 359-555-0100 and spawned the Annihiliator instead, fail.
