FPSAdmin recently got in contact with Treyarch to pose the question to them "will we ever see a female character in game"? Take a look:

I was wondering if Treyarch will be incorporating a little something for the females when WaW is released. Do you have any intentions to include 'as a first in the CoD series' female player models not only in single player but multiplayer too? We're not talking bikini clad (Lara Croft style) women either, full uniforms will suffice.
It's a topic that female gamers mention quite a bit when it comes to war games and it would be very interesting to know what Treyarch's stance on this concept would be.
Treyarch's Response
Thanks for contacting me. It's an interesting topic you raise. I can say with absolute certainty that females have not been excluded from WWII shooters for the sake of excluding them; it has always been simply a matter of historical accuracy. Call of Duty has always been as authentic of a game as possible, and the fact is there were no American women on the front-lines in the military during these conflicts.
To artificially place female characters in the game in places that historically it didn't happen would detract from that accuracy and level of authenticity for which the Call of Duty franchise is always striving to achieve.
That said, I will definitely take this discussion to the design team and see what comes out the other end. Certainly the concept of customization particularly in the online world is a popular one within the gaming community, and as always with a video game it is a balance between realism and entertainment.
