All I am expecting are a few fixes/tweaks and probably widescreen support.

Just the widescreen support would benefit me, I don´t have high expectations of a patch.

Anyone think it would be more enjoyable if Bf2 was like it was in 1.2 patches or somewhere around there, where they almost got it just right, except the sniper kit was terrible?

dem dogfights between jets were fun when it was just bullets (that being the case, the f35 got 600 vs 300)

It would be nice if the patch would make the game more advanced. Since the game has players who have been playing for a very long time, their gaming skills and methods will have matured and they might need something extra.

Some of the really annoying aspects to vanilla BF2 :

1) Everyone able to pick sniper rifles as a basic kit.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see squads of ghilli suited creatures shambling up to cp's. They are pretty easy to take down with mounted MG's at CP's due to awful deviation cones.

2) Musical Chairs methods in AAS game mode.

Why should lonewolves be able to run round the map avoiding the enemy and just taking cp's on their own? Anyone who has played the AAS2 cp taking push methods with Project Reality will see some sort of method to advancing across a map. Basic AAS musical chairs is frustrating and souless.

3) Deviation cones are horrendous

Anyone who has ever fired a rifle in real life sits down to play Vanilla and wonders why the hell they have to fire so many rounds in an enemies direction before one of them strikes. Even at 50m !!!

4) Headshots are headshots. 5.56mm assault rifle or sniper rifle, one shot should kill

Another reason for so many snipers in vanilla? If it takes 3x shots to a head at point blank range to kill an opponent, why would anyone choose to use a more useful class beneficial to teamplay (and we are talking 64 player servers here, not single player gaming)

5) 128 player servers.

They started off talking this way. It's about time they sorted this out

6) Maybe some new forces added to the game?

Dice could maybe talk to the modding communities about this. The expansion packs they produced and sold were not all they can do. There's no reason why they cannot keep adding forces and tweaking the game in general. They could even sell the update packs to make some money. The engine is already there to save some money totally redesigning everything. They could bring the current world theatres into the game with fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan (insurgency) and expand on possible conflicts/targets (PLA/MEC/etc)

7) Releasing the development code to the modders

Come on! It's not like Dice are doing anything with it anymore


BUT............

I guess we will settle for a few server stabilisation tweaks, a few community made and supplied maps (most likely from the Sir Community? )and the Mod groups having to spend a couple of weeks fixing the damage the patch caused to their work that is 4x the capacity and enjoyment of vanilla.

The only thing I MIGHT agree with is 7) releasing code to modders, but since I don't mod and I don't know anything about modding I don't know how important that is.

And for
1) well the reason BF2 is so fun and different from other games is the huge amount of freedom with kits, vehicles, maps, etc. Sniper is fun to play because they're a pretty relaxing kit since you don't have to be right in the action to have fun. And if they're so easy to kill, then why complain about them?

2) go play FFoW. also, see first bit of answer 1) about freedom

3) eh... sometimes they're annoying but for the most part they're pretty easy to deal with like shooting in burst or single shot rather than just holding down the LMB hoping to get a kill

4) I get head shots all the time both with automatic guns, semi-automatic and bolt action sniper rifles. And every headshot kills. Sometimes if I'm rushing I actually count the Xs to know when to stop shooting at someone. It works every time and it's different with every gun, too. So I know the damage, when it registers, works.

5) I can't argue with that, but BF2 is a big game and it was released in 2005 when we weren't using dual-core processors and I think the 7 series GPUs just barely came out? Are you sure hardware was even good enough back then for that in BF2? Maybe in an older game with weaker graphics, but BF2 looks pretty good, even today. They definately won't add that in with a patch because they'd have to remake EVERYTHING

6) adding new forces to the game would mean a few more maps, more guns, more vehicles, more voice overs, etc. Yes, it would be good, but at this point it's obviously not going to happen. If I want to play with SAS, spetnaz or insurgants I just play SF.

128 player servers won't be added because computers running the official minimum specs won't work.

Therefore, it would be a type of false advertising as part of the game is unplayable. They would have to either change the specification on the game box or state somewhere that 128 player servers would be unplayable. They'd also have to change every game currently on sale

And snipers are a kit to be respected. If properly taught/trained, they are the longest range weapon in the game (besides artillery and the occasional 1337-tanker). AFAIK there isn't another weapon that often does 350m headshots.

Guys I can almost guarantee they won't be changing any balancing issues or major gameplay tweaks because they'd get sooo many complaints and would have to make another patch to fix this one. I see them adding widescreen support as they did in 2142 and a couple of maps.

Keep BF2 as it is, its fun like that, I like that if I dont want to play realism I can take a breake from PR and jump on BF2.

The level of PR adverts are just insane and annoying now. Il play it because I want to not because every thread tells me to.
