I'm not going to hide my opinion of their bad marketing and press release because i'm worried what they are going to think of it, it's much more important to be truthful.

Anyway they're not going to think "**** you", they're not arragont assess.

Hopefully they don't make this upgrades available to weapon statistics and availability.

Let's see what CKMC has to say.

And how do you pay them?

Theres far too much telling people not to speculate in this thread.
That is the idea of press releases, to create this speculation, good or bad.
This is the idea of forums, to discuss the possibilities with conjunction to the press release.

At the end of the day predicition, based on fact, is a big money earner. So you can't blame people for trying to foresee what is going to happen in the gaming industry they love, and well, wanting the most out of it, e.g. professional designers making one epic Battlefield 3 rather then lots of small money makers.

Whats better, one epic game, or four poor games? I'm pretty sure the epic ones are the ones that keep devs in buisiness!

          Again, well said sir :salute:

We must remember the number of people who bought and play the Battlefield series.

People on these forums could be considered the more "serious" gamers. I don't believe this new title is aimed so much at us, but more the people who play Team Fortress, Time splitters and other quick cartoon based frag fests.

Thus, this new announcement probably won't get the majority of members here "wet" (except me, i think it'll be good fun), so instead of getting all up tight and flaming EA and Dice, just say, "i don't think i'll enjoy this game, but i'm sure some people will", and move on.

I personally like Dice and EA, and whilst i believe there have been mistakes made in the past regarding the quality of release (in terms of design and coding, not ideas), they should be encouraged to try new things. If they didn't, people would complain about a stagnant market.

One point i would raise is that i don't think the game was appropriate for the "Battlefield" name.
The communities and image surrounding that franchise is of realism/fun, and Heroes doesn't tick one of those boxes. It was perhaps, in my opinion, a chance to open up a new franchise, but, i'm not EA, and i'm pretty sure they know more than me

So, to sum this up. This release isn't aimed particularly at us (people with our interests). It's aimed at people who like a quick "pick up and play" frag.

So, by all means comment on the game, but there is no need for all the bashing going on here! BF3 is still in production, so go hype that

At the end of the day, it falls down to opinion and thats what press releases are about whether its games or movies.

Someone will say "**** DICE. THEY BLOW! BOOOOO! They dont give a **** about the community."

              Someone will say "ZOMG! CARTOONS!"

Someone will say "I can't wait for this."

But, you know pretty much everyone that bashed EA/DICE/BF (Myself Included) is going to play this game.

Like i said in a previous post, The Battlefield series is the game series you just love to hate yet you still play it and your all still part of a community (TGN) that was built of the back of the series in question.

You got alot of Sir's in this thread, giving opinions. Same with them, they wouldn't be the production juggernauts that they are without the Battlefield series.

So, in conclusion, when it comes down to it. It doesn't really matter whether DICE sucks or whether it's a TF2 rip-off, EA/DICE see this as a potiental way to make money out of it and if it means we get another pc game thats worth playing then i'll hold my breath till i play it, and i suggest everyone else does the same.

It was only a matter of time before it was adapted in this manner for the West. The top title using this method in SE Asia makes 4 million dollars per month from these 'micro-payments.' Not small fries!

And honestly, if the game is good enough, the people will pay. If you get a free game but make a few small payments for upgrades or unlocks, you're still getting a good deal. Of course, if you don't like the game, you are not out of pocket in any way except for the bandwidth cost of downloading it. This is a big gamble for Dice in my opinion and hats off to them.

My issue though is that people who pay for upgrades obviously get an advantage over other players with better weapons/equipment. This could either perpetuate the spending of other players to keep up with those who have better equipment, or drive people away from the 'elite' players. My question is, for a game that is obviously 'dumbed down' for the masses and looks like a cartoon....are EA targeting the age group that actually have the money to spend on extra content?
This method is more than just common in Asia indeed, therefore I am not at all surprised about the upcoming Battlefield Heroes. At the same time I'm not surprised that people will whine at the concept on first sight because it's not realistic/good graphics/hardcore, which are the things the Western players tend to like.

A friend of mine tried to get me to play an online racing game that highly resembles Mario Kart. Getting the game is free as all you need to do is just register and download. You can get starter packs at cheap prices (all less than 5GBP / 10USD) with some extra items to start off with.

Sure, you can play with just the game money and race (and win), but players prefer to spend some real money to get bigger upgrades and better cars that will outmatch cars that can be paid with game money (unless you get really expensive ones). This means that you can play it free all fine, but you may find yourself having tougher races/fights against people who have better equipments. Concept of Battlefield Heroes may be similar to this but we're not sure, because we've been given very little information so far.

Why is micropayment effective? Because it's usually not much per payment, so players would assume that it's okay to get more upgrades via payments.

Again, we've been given very little information, so let's give the developers more time and a chance and we'd see what more informations we will get from them. *May* seem like a ripped-off TF2 BF style, but we're still not that sure. Perhaps it's just that Valve happens to be ahead of DICE on that, nothing more.

Look wider in the horizon, that way you'd be more tolerant of odd ideas and willing to try new stuff. And how would you know that you wouldn't like it if you haven't tried it yet?

Depends, one likely way is to pay online via Debit/Credit Cards, but back in Asia lots of players are younger players who don't get access to flashy plastic cards, so they buy game point cards to get game money that way (similar to how some people top up their mobile phone with vouchers).

                    I'm looking forward to it.

Just like Trackmania Nations, it seems that most of the games I play now are free.
