stats and awards make the lasting appeal that much longer.

Perfect example of how this particular line of thinking has killed the game.

Ranks, and medals and badges are for babies....100% true statement.

        Re: BF2 Stats Problem

I find it rather amusing that I'm attacked and called an a s s. I did not personally attack anyone because I don't need to. I'm not wrong, I'm right. His, as well as your veiled attacks are ad hominem.
AGAIN you did not correctly comprehend a reply, and this time, you did not even grasp the idea on this one. I am not commenting on your opinion about stats and rankings, but how you treated and comprehended wrongfully on another person's response to you. It's not that hard to distinguish and differentiate.

Furthermore, I did not call you an ***, let me point out some sentences:

You're considered to be an *** by him
you're labeled an *** to whoever called you an ***.
I don't know how you are reading sentences, but no, I'm not calling you an ***, I pointed out you're being called a *** by another person. Again, reading comprehension is imperative to know the difference. And to build up my previous reply, you again show your lack of counter-argument with the same lame saying: "I'm not wrong, I'm right." Didn't you ever learn that opinions are not truely right or wrong?

You can't attack the substance of my opinion, so instead, you attack me personally in order to diminish my opinion....and yes, I'm right on that as well.
I never even mentioned about what you said on stats and rankings. Yet, you misunderstood me with your lack of comprehension to now think I'm avoiding the subject which I was never even concerned about.

So let me guess, you LOVE stats.
I don't "love" stats but enjoy it. However, this hardly is relevant to what I'm discussing. Don't let your misunderstanding tie these two up.

          Re: BF2 Stats Problem

Its funny to read posts here,

You can tell who has a open mind and played 1942 and Vietnam and who didn't plus enjoyed them and the mods they had.

Otherwise its those against stats and those that are pro stats.. kinda like good vs evil.

I can swing either way with them for the most part... to me they are not needed to play the any game. They wouldn't be bad in my opinion if EA would just monitor servers closer and allow anyone to put up a ranked server with custom maps to mix things up, but of course its all about the money and thats what they are after by charging server providers a fee to call themselves "ranked providers" and then they in turn charge a arm/leg for Joe Blow to rent a "Instance" of the game. Mind you I did say Instance and not server cause your renting really just a few megs of HDD space, few megs of RAM and some bandwidth which isn't much.

But, here we are back to Good vs Evil....so you ask yourself which is which?
Its very easy to tell ain't it...if there were no stats then there would be no discussion on this or fighting over them and you wouldn't have the addictions to acquire stats like there is now.

                :|:
While I am not trying to start or perpetuate any sort of argument or flaming, per se, I would like to offer my opinion:
Some of what is included in the following, will most likely start a (hopefully educated, mature) debate, because it deals with alot of controversial opinion.
But by dialog and understanding, people are able to appreciate and hopefully tolerate, more.
I can understand the elitist "HOOHAA, if you need stats, your a baby. PLAY TO WIN AND ACT LIKE A MAN" type mentality. I ran a server and played CSS for a few years. For me, the joy in that game was all about the proverbial pwnage you could lay down on someone. there were no stats (necessarily, outside of stat plugins) it was mostly about fast paced round by round individual play.
That being said, recently I was drawn to play bf2 because of its great openness to different styles of play. I personally believe that part of the beauty of the game is that you can play however you want. A benefit to this, is if you want to only squeeze in a few minutes of play without committing yourself to round(s) at a time and concentrating on team play. Of course, playing however you'd like leaves the possibility open for people being a jack@ss, but by the same token, on a political front, trying to prevent people from being a jerk by implementing certain rules/regulations etc, ends up with a loss of personal freedom (freedom to play whatever style you choose, be it with intense team work, lone wolf etc) and by limiting options, your taking away freedom of choice. Some people like stats, others don't. Its part of the game. If you dont like it, play another game, and stop annoying people by whining over it.
The stats outtage aggrivated me because i was on the brink of unlocking a couple more new guns. So What if some people play for a new rank. A huge part of being a human is EGO. Its part of your being. Ego is simply a sense of self and self worth. Hopefully people really have more in life for them than to simply get off on raising their rank in videogames, or completely obsessing over videogames for that matter, but whatever floats your boat. I dont get off on raising my stats, i simply wanted new unlocks.Stats dont necessarily lead to egotistical youth. Insecure kids with parents that prefer to throw money at problems, get babysitters and dont actually RAISE their kids end up the attention-seeking egoist. I Think it was a dopey statement to say that stats of a game make kids want attention. go take some child development courses, or learn about how humans/kids develop or function before you try to make an uninformed social comment like the media does, to foolishly say something along the same lines as violent games make violent kids, that that jackass alarmist did (i forget his name) during the VA. tech incident. That one lawyer was quick to blame CSS for influencing the incident. It is a statistical and philisophical fact that regardless of the influence, unfortunately there will ALWAYS be a loose cannon, a freak accident. I dont care what anyone says, that kid was mentally disturbed, and cry about VA gun laws or the fact that he was korean, but when it boils down to it, there is no feasible way that such accidents can be be averted all of the time... but i digress,
Whats wrong with respecting the fact that people are motivated to play a really great game for different reasons. Its part of the fun of the game. People should tolerate other more, and shouldnt take things so personal.

While i was aggrivated about that stats outtage, it didnt by any means, stop me from continuing to play that past few weeks.

It started again for a day and then is stopped completely again for me, so bleh.

on a side note---> As far as debate goes, in theory, opinions should only exist because of a difference of values, religion, and perception. Unfortunately, while that is true to an extent, The majority of debates, controversy, and the like are all intensified and perpetuated by misinformation, political agendas, hype, alarmism, and the media. If you dont understand, Watch Penn & Teller's : Bull$hit show. Really. Its on showtime. I think they are two of the few people left in this world that think, and choose to wisely become informed and remain skeptical until they gather an abundance of information. Yeah, they lean a little to the left, And i prefer to stay neutral politically, but watching their show only confirms my suspicions about us as a people/culture. We are ignorant, uninformed, and many of us are extremists. Thats a very volitile combination. It would be interesting to see the lack in variety of opinion if all people were correctly informed and on the same page. at least then, it would be a true, informed opinion.

thats why you have "Autobalance" And you also have GOOD server admins to monitor this type of team switching to ensure they don't switch to get a win...hell its done now sometimes but I've seen admins catch players that do it which is a good thing!

                        Re: BF2 Stats Problem

i play to win. i love the teamwork involved and believe it or not there are a few players left who use teamwork. i honestly couldnt care less about the lack of my stats, cuz most of the weapons i want (aside from the g3) are in the expansion packs (like the l96a1 which is my favorite weapon thus far).

of course, ill admit im a little childish with the game when i snipe off 15 people in a row and use dumb words like "bam!" and "pwnd!" but whatever. thats just me having fun. which is what video games are meant for.

EDIT: doesnt your earned stats for a game double if you are on the winning team? see, that is some incentive for a team to be the winning team. double the stats seems to me like it would be quite attractive to some players. not me, since i dont really care, but i can understand why someone would care.
