And what do you get personally out of winning a video game? Would it be a sense of accomplishment? What does a person get when they earn a badge or medal in a video game? A sense of accomplishment? I think you and the people who like stats are one in the same.

BF 2 has improved in many ways for those who want to work as a team (squads and built in VOIP). In BF: Vietnam, it was very difficult to work as a team, even with the addition of the buddy list. My friends and I play the game to work together and win for the team.

Do the stats need work and tweaking? I would say so, but they do have value to individuals as well as the community. Would I play this game if there wasn't stats? Yes sir. But I do admit, they can have a "healthy" place in a video game.

some say stats are bad others like them ect...
wouldn't it be good if EA released a patch that gives a STAT bonus to all the players on the winning team,(i.e must be on the winning team for say 10 mins)

then the players that think stats are stopping players from going for the win, would be gone due to the fact there's a bonus for the winning team.

just a thought but maybe it would stop all the flaming from wanting or not wanting STATS in the game.

I think jaws has a point in that stats should report to the winning team only.. even if your the highest scoring person on the server at the time the round ends..unless your on the winning team you don't get a gold medal and you don't get a single point. Award the winning team means you are awarding just that... a TEAM that won!

Awarding stats to winning teams would only be fair if 2 things were implemented first.

                1. A player would not be allowed to switch teams during a match.

                2. A player would not be able to join a match already in progress. Joining after a team is already kicking the other teams behind isn't fair.
This is what would kill the idea. No one wants to wait for a match to begin.

While this is a good idea to motivate people to work as a team, I don't think it will work. The biggest problem is just because a team loses, doesn't mean players on that team didn't have the intention and more importantly the effort to win.

I have been on many teams where no matter what my friends and I do, our team is either filled with people who don't know how/want to play the game. Does that mean we shouldn't earn points and such for what we did? This would lead to teams being stacked even more.

I have always said that the points system should reward people on what they do that makes a difference. Capturing a flag helps your team, killing an enemy helps your team. But I don't think a "all or nothing" attitude will work. If we were professional gamers, my attitude might be different, but we play mainly for fun!

                  Don't we?

you earn what you have if your on that winning team..so if you came in at or towards the end you wouldn't get much now would you.

Its a team effort just like it is for any real army fighting any fight. You either win or you lose. Simple.

So what if you come in with like 50 or so tickets left, enemy has only one flag and are pinned down, and your team is basically spawn raping the losing side which helps you get a quick 40-50 points. You didn't help put your team in the superior position, so why should you benefit?

I don't think comparing this game to the military is fair, but we wil if you want. Is it possible for soldiers in the Vietnam War to receive medals for heroic acts of bravery? Yes! Did we win that war? No!

we choose to drop the war... I don't see me putting down my keyboard.

EA should either get rid of stats or only reward the winning team and members on it. End of discussion.

                                pfft @ stats...

Stats IMHO ruined the BF franchise ..... or should I say, EA's anally rententive way of handling stats ruined the BF2 franchise.

it amazes me how many people dont play mods due to no stats... IMHO vanilla BF2 is boring, bland and no way near as fun as 75% of the mods available.

but it doesn't bother me really, because EA haven't cottoned on to the fact that BF1942 sold ALOT more units due to the desert combat combat mod and due to thier pathetically shoddy treatment of mods in BF2, the battlefield community is losing talented modders in droves. They are shooting themselves in the foot and are to ignorant to notice.

Sure, Dice *promised* alot (eg mod spotlight & the supposed promise of supporting the mod community) but once the EA bigwigs had thier say, the only focus was on profits from ranked servers.

so, to those players who missed thier beloved stats, (you know, those chumps who live by the mantra "WOO! my numbers are greater than yours and i have a pretty badge to prove it!") enjoy your bland battles on karkand and rejoice most vocally when you numbers increase by a digit or 2 ....

I on the other hand will patiently await unreal3 and frontline:fuel of war...

EA could learn alot about mod support from epic, but that would require thier CEO's to unplug thier heads from thier rectums first...
