Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

I meant is FH2 going to be arcade in the gameplay and coding - one shot one kill, realistic tank speeds, realistic projectile speed, armour calculations, reloading planes and so on?

According to Lobo the mod will still have crosshairs, same as FH1, there is no discussion with this, its final he's made his mind up!!

I consider this a very acardey feature.

The maps will be stunningly realistic but its all going to be spoilt by this feature thats been around since computer games have been in existance, 1970's or 80's.

We now live in the 21st century, I can't believe crosshairs would still be used if ironsights are available.
The average age of gamers is 30, not 10,what is achieved by leaving them in?

        Rant over.

Well the thing is, FH has never been about extreme realism, that's what XWWII was for. FH always aimed for that balance between arcade play style and extreme realism, never trying to meander to one extreme or the other, always trying to put more emphasize on historical accuracy. FH is realistic in that it has one shot kills and that grenades no longer hurt tanks, but it was never to any sort of extreme. It's always been like that, and I suspect FH2 will not be any different, so if you're expecting something EXTREMLY realistic i'm afraid you're going to be dissapointed in FH2's gameplay. Of course no one's played the mod yet except the devs/betatesters so we'll just have to see.

I'm glad someone else realizes this besides me. Too many FH fanboys consider FH to be the most realistic mod, the most accurate, the most of everything, when it's not the "most" of anything. It's always been a conglomeration of a number of things, sometimes realistic, sometimes not, sometimes innovative, sometimes not, sometimes historically accurate, sometimes not...limited both by the engines and by the vision of the devs. It's fine to play a mod and like what they are doing on a given game engine. It's another thing entirely to base your known version of history itself on what they are doing, and bash all others for being less.

Can we be expecting a quick movie of that armoured car?

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

                *sigh*

After reading this thread I have this to say:

1- Do not complain about something that is free.

2- Try and have some respect for the work that is put into free things like FH2. I mean geez, if someone had a big rant about my King Tiger model I pieced together in real-life and I was giving it away for free at a garage sale how stupid do you think that'd look?

3- The only reason FH2 is taking as long as it has is because the developers themselves are perfectionists. They want to release one of the most comprehensive and complete representations of the North African theatre that is humanly possible in a video game (all in a fun and playable form while still feeling realistic). From what I've seen in the updates, they are going to achieve this.

5- You must realise the large amount of work it takes to create a model from scratch, while making sure its accurate to the real thing and its poly count is suitable, then skinning it with an appropiate skin (all of which has multiple layers and weathering), then creating and applying normal mapping, then exporting and coding it to the game - I am only stating what I know. I'm sure there is many other steps involved.

                4- Good things take time.

Be patient and wait. FH2 will be awesome. :)

You complain about bashing, but everything you do is bashing, mate.

ww2freak, I'm not your "mate", by any stretch of the word.

Nothing I posted was a bash against anyone. And other than an occasional outburst at a retarded fanboy, or a dev that thinks himself a god and untouchable by human hands that has attacked me and my work first, I generally don't make it a habit to bash the people that work at the same (free) business as myself. I may need some help from one of them one day, or they from me, and I am at least on speaking terms with 95% of the devs out there for the Battlefield series. The other 5%, I don't worry about, most of their own teammates have problems with them, too.

As far I got the devs explanation right, the crossairs are only there as vague aiming point. For rifles it will be a circle (as the shotgun in BF2), it will not close as the crossairs in FH1. So they're only useful in close range. For longer ranges you will need the ironsights. For me this is acceptable because I don't think aiming with the ironsight was common IRL as close ranges.
                        (correct me if I'm wrong.)

with a sub-machine gun, maybe you can shoot from the hip (no crosshair), but not with a bolt-action rifle...

I think we will need to download the first released version of all ww2 mods and then we will talk about realism

heh, yeah and we still have respawning and death is still being "simulated". But those even pre-date the computer games of the 1970's... I believe those started in computer games of the '60's
