    New Frostbite Engine Images

As we already know, Battlefield: Bad Company will be running on a completely new graphics engine called Frostbite. While this new game in the Battlefield series has only been confirmed for consoles, the engine itself will likely be used in other games and perhaps a new Battlefield game for the PC. The guys over at Playsyde have posted up new screenshots coming from the engine and I must say, they look very impressive. The images they have posted up are apparently from a tech demo for the engine. Take a look:

Looks really good, I'd say theres some room for improvement...but it sure looks nicer than the current battlefield.

Close up looks good, long distance terrain LODs look shocking though, no better than ARMA.

I made a small observation about one of the screenshots more technical aspects from level design perspective on my blog (blatant pimpage :p )

            very nice
i like how the mountains look
            very realistic
            drawdistance seems infinite
            nice

what games are going to be on Frostbite
            besides BF2 - Bad Company?

It's improved, but it doesn't win over Crysis.

The news is written a bit confusing. The engine may be completely new, but as far as I know all other BF-Games use a Frostbite-Engine, so this is just a new version comparable to Unreal 1, 2 or 3-Engine. However, If this engine really is completely new DICE should have chosen an other name.

Well, but the screens are looking incredibly great. :)

                @ Swoosher,

the new Cry-Engine is made to be used in many games (making crash), but Frostbite is especially created to be used by DICE only for their BF-Games. For sure it can be used for other games, but it will be optimized to run a game like Battlefield I assume. This is what history teaches us.

Both engines have their own aims and this is why the Cry-Engine needs to be better. its needs to be alive for more than just one year.

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way. It is so nice to look at, but with Crysis coming out and how much time I am going to invest in QW, if a PC version comes out of this, I don't foresee me jumping to it. Even if QW is graphically antiquated (which it currently is and I am not trying to take away from the game).

hey look - another engine for DICE to screw up.

                    F:Fow looks better.

take it all in now - because it won't look this good by the time its released (same with bf2)

Codename Eagle, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam used the 'Refractor' and 'Refractor 2' engines. As far as I know the engine BF2 and BF2142 was built on was never given a name. Frostbite is a new engine entirely, and its the first time theyve used the name.

i'm wondering why they released images with such horrific stitching artifacts?
