What would your name be as a DCOn tester, I don't remember a "thetruth" lol

Thanks eggman. I have one of your testers as a student of mine right now, very small world.

Thanks for the comps on the map. It's my first attempt at a map. I really felt the urge after helping out on lost village's statics. Yea, the harsh look of the mountains has been bugging me. I'm sure we'll work something out The mappers have been throwing a few ideas at me, but I don't remember them being a fix for that. I've been so busy coding I may have overlooked that suggestions. And don't worry "thetruth" will be found

        That's because it's not a beach, it's just a river

Honestly, I never ones played a map and looked at the sky and thought to my self, hmmm, something wrong with the sky, i'm leaving. Maybe the Devs here have an eye for that, but as a fan (and most fan), I don't notice it. All I look for is, if this map is fun or not, that's what let me decide if i'm staying or leaving.

thetruth, welcome to the forums man, very interesting FIRST post. You can't post on your BANNED name so you created a new one.

            sweet map,
and about the wow factor comming from a skybox...
i only had it on a few maps in any Battlefield game/mod,
and the last one was that village map called Orel (i think) from POE2,
dunno why but that skybox gave that map such a nice eerie atmosphere i couldnt stop playing it for a while. (other maps with those effects i recall beeing from BF42 DC)

hehe, thats like saying you wouldnt mind if you where walking on blue ground, and the guns where pink, and the vehiles where yellow etc. all these little things add up to the quility and polish of the end resualt. It is very imporant to keep the subconsanse very helly with these things. You dont know it, but you will notice this stuff with out you relizing and all these little things make a big effect overall.

LOL Rhino, well if you put it this way, then yes I do mind. What I was trying to say is, looking at the screen shots; I don’t notice anything wrong with the sky color or lighting issues (keep in mind I’m not a mapper). If it were up to me, I wouldn’t spend too much time fixing this issue, as this is only the Alpha release. Just my opinion.

"Blue fog" occurs in industrialized areas - the phenomenon we call smog. The coloration mainly comes from vehicles.

Brownish fog/smoke/haze usually comes from either woodsmoke or burning coal.

Personally, I feel that the brownish tint of the fog here is more appropriate to the setting, in part because wood would probably be used a lot for cookfires and heating and in part because this doesn't like a place where there are a lot of commuters on the roads in their SUVs.

As for the "contrast" between the blue skies and the haze, I see that often around dusk or dawn where I live. When the sun is low enough in the sky and where there are moutains, the light plays on the clouds and the sky seems scintillatingly blue, but the mountains stop the rays from hitting the ground.

From my 17th floor office I see this all the time here in Vancouver where I live. Looking at these screenshots - before even seeing the discussion - the settings reminded me of this. As such I was impressed with what is a small detail - namely that the shadows do not appear to be very hard, which is suggestive of the light being diluted through the haze.

So, in my opinion, these screenshots looks perfectly "realistic"

                  Cheers :-)

Thanks LahLahSr, For my self i know this wasnt a sky that looked unrealistic, but its hard the explain something like that.
Cant you post a pic of what your where telling about?

honestly I think some of you are spending way too much time critiquing this map
for the fact that we've specified from the start that this was a concept map. IE.. not final, WIP, something to go off of.. well you all get the point.. If the player base likes the map SNM and I will create a whole new batch of statics specific to this map that will give it its true intended impact that Kiff (maker of Mosul) would have wanted to have for this map in the end. Thank you all for your comments be them negative, or positive, or indifferent. We enjoy playing the hell out of it as I'm sure you all will soon.

I have to completey agree with Catia here. My concerns are how much fun, and how intense a map will be. Details are fine and sweet, but they don't matter to me in the slightest.

This map looks really intense, and I can't wait to try it. Release it already, please.

Heh I'm working on it. Want to get permission from Building Management to get out on the roof with a tripod - not specifically for this discussion, but because it just looks to damn nice! lol..

I know you're making examples and setting a scene for your explanation.... Obviously, the lighting and fog color is not quite as extreme as blue terrain or pink weapons. lol. I've spent quite a few hours playing this map and not one time was I put off by the lighting or anything else for that matter. Just like any other WIP, this is not the final build. Thanks for the crits though.
