    ModJive Q&A

Sir. Elxx of the Sir. Community is back today with a chance for the community to weigh in on his latest creation, ModJive. Here's what he had to say:
ModJive is nearing its first public release! If you have forgotten what it is, here's the quick description:

ModJive is an application that allows users to view and download the latest available modifications for Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. It will automatically install the mods and later update them for you when new versions are released. ModJive is the essential companion for every Battlefield player!

Now, before we launch ModJive for the Battlefield community, I would like to give everybody a chance to ask any questions they have about the application. The beta testers and I will make our best effort to answer all of your questions. Both players and modders are invited to ask - I want to make sure everybody can use the app and that modders can get their mods in as smoothly as possible.

Just reply to this news thread. We'll be reading.

So start posting your questions about ModJive now and stay tuned for the release!

Where will the files be hosted at? So we will know if we get good download speeds?

    Cool

Mod teams will get a choice. They can either use their own servers for ModJive to download from, or they can have us host the mod. We have arrangements for several file servers in North America and Europe - ModJive uses IP geolocation to determine which one is the best mirror for you.

Will there be a display that shows how many people are currently playing each mod? And if not I officially declare there should be one...eh?

Stuff I as a modder would love to see incorporated:
          - server browser with a mod filter
          - ability to launch / join a server from the browser
          - buddy list
          - torrent downloading capabilities (tho I am assuming that it can launch a torrent client if the link to an update is a .torrent file)
          - ABR client capability

Basically the ability to become the front end for a mod in terms of launching the mod and joining servers / finding buddys.

i sure hope ea spotlight this or makes it a ingame popup or something. the mod community needs this to get casual players.

I'd like to thank you Sir. Elxx, this could well revolutionise BF2/BF2142 for modders.

              Seconded.

Perhaps an ability to show a top 5 servers for each mod?

This is awesome! My only concern is what happens when say..... the next build of poe2 or PR comes out, and everyone is trying to get it. Won't the downloads be slow for everyone using mod light to auto update. We all know what those days can be like. Just curious.

Do you plan to give it support for more games?

how will you go about dealing with mods? as in who and what will be supported
will their be a dedicated email or contact for mods to tell about update or a place to find out more on being supported by this..

Elxx is writing a back end for mod teams as we speak. Mostly, it will be the modder's or mapper's responsibility to apply for a "slot." You will have direct control over updating your content.
