In the Battlefield Podcast I was listening to last night, they contacted CKMC and he said it was a load of rubbish, basically. He was vague, as usual, not denying any new stuff down the line, but it seems pretty unlikely reading between the lines in his statement.

hmmm, that really makes me wonder about the actual future plans! What if they dumped it like the final patch of 1942 before it fell through...that would be so disappointing!
Seriously though, it would be so bad of EA to drop bf2 because;
A.it didn’t actually come out that long ago for them to scrub it out
B.They have too much of a following based on this installment to scrub it
C.They don’t have enough of a following in 2142 either

from reading all the posts on this topic, i have come to a final conclusion.
some people do not want ea to realease anything, purely for the fact that they can sit there and say "i told you so".

back to the point. theres good and bad news yeah?
my best guess is that they will release another patch with some changes, but after that there will be no more releases

The complete collection (BF2 with Special Forces, Euro Force and Armored Fury) comes out in March, I'm guessing it's just a small patch to make all copies compatible, or something like that.

I have SF and the two boosters. I would dissappointed if they released those for free later but happy if by releasing them, I would get to play with more people on those maps.

Ideally, I would want all the maps, weapons, unlocks on SF and boosters available in the same game and maybe even a reality setting in a patch. I know about Project Reality but I want a reality setting that allows damage and actual ability reflected, a nice physics engine where close to everything can be blown up and teams skewed.

Skewed teams? I want a Jalalabad like map where the US actually has superior weaponry but the Mec team has double number of US forces. They would also be armed with stinger like anti-aircraft like the ones used in Iraq. Why can't modders create this kind of skewed reality setting or is there one already out there that I don't know about?

Maybe but maybe not. Im not takin up for EA but the one time before a patch they started testing a new map, Jalalabad. Today I saw a map I hadnt seen before in my browser. Just like the other time it had a high ping and was listed in red, among the other ranked servers.

Maybe someone else has more info? Thats all I have. . . . . . . . .Red

I was hopeing someone else saw the map I saw on the ninth. If I remember correctly the servers name was Akita or something like that and the map had a chineese sounding name. Like Peaking square maybe, I dont remember what it was.

If they do decide, when they do, that there is no more support I really hope that they give us some advance notice. A week or two would be enough for me.

Project Reality, Al Basrah. The USA is heavily overpowered but Insurgents still win most of the time.
