If they did that I wouldn't patch to their new one. I'm sure many wouldn't want to also, and I think EA know this. Unless they required it for ranked play, or logging in to the account servers, then they'd really be shooting themselves in the foot. But who knows? Maybe they'll give us something really worth waiting for, and afterwards they'll probably pull the plug on support of any kind. I just don't see how they could stop ranked play though. That could have negative repercussions on sales in their future.

Perhaps this news is the delay of the rlease of Battlefield: Bad Company. BUt at the same time saying theyre adding something.. dunno

I hope they will just leave the game alone. For once, im happy with it, no crashes, quick, a fun stats system, little glitching.

I very much doubt they will get rid of the ranking system, they make more money out of selling ranked servers as opposed to unranked servers.
I am pretty sure they will release tools or stuff for the mod developers which will help make the game survive a bit longer. They said "Some is a little too late in the game." which reflects the thought that most people wanted proper tools for creating mods.

many ppl seem to hate ranking system. It should imo stay and EA would kill BF2 ASAP if it would lose it.. Many players have invested a lot of time in "developing" their "player"..let them have this fun.

not all play infantry Karkand for getting stats.. I like setting goals for getting badge/medals I dont have yet.Recently I achieved my last goals of getting Aviator Badge and my second Combat Action Medal . Most of my time I play now Sharqi (favorite), Mashtuur, Oman, Dalian, Dragon (though I played 340h of Karkand at the very beginning and no I even hate the word).. always vehicle servers, mostly as assault soldier or pilot.. plenty of people in "normal" ranked servers are ready to go along with teamplay.. If you cant find it, disconnect and find another server.. but most likely you can find working team in first vehicle server running anything else than Karkand.If YOU are good enough then players seeking same teamwork come to YOUR squad without asking..

If you want to have teamplay in ranked servers just avoid 24/7 Karkand/Wake or Karkand inf (or whatever inf) servers..

Guess it will be new patch along with new map.. if there will be anything at all

I hope they announce that when QW will come out EA stops support for BF2 so everybody can move on to play QW, and they will admit how the game is screwed up and will pay us all back 50 bucks that they stole from us.

Actually, I got my money back for BF2142 because after all their efforts to figure out why the download was being corrupted, they couldn't fix it, so they agreed to give my money back!

The thread upon which this news item was premissed. It was posted by a moderator, not an EA Rep. I said from the start a lowly moderator wouldn't know ****. If you go to the thread now, you'll see it has been locked. If it constituted any kind of serious attempt at disseminating information, or if EA approved of it as he himself claimed several times, the thread wouldn't have been locked. The thread didnt go off the rails, nothing was posted on the last page that wasn't posted several times earlier in the thread, so thats not the reason it was locked.

That UK moderator has credibility since almost everything he and his colleague has said were confirmed later by EA. His team has been the "voice" of Battlefield 2 community to EA, especially during the time in which BF2 was at version 1.30 and 1.40. In retrospect, the EA moderator in the BF2 EA U.S. forum have almost no credibility or at least a history of "accomplishments" compared to the moderators in the EA UK forum.

Although he (UK) has no direct influence of the development and updates of BF2, his team still funnels information from the community directly to the development team.

EDIT: Sorry Augustus, I thought you were talking about the thread and moderators at the UK forum, not from the U.S. forum as was your original statement.

My question is "why doesn't anyone just go to the source and shoot EA an email about future plans?" I know it may sound a little naive but there is no harm trying. The fact remains that if there were no further plans regarding bf2, EA would came out and say it. They have no use leading the CONSUMER on and then letting them down only to realize that the consumer doesn't like being let down and then loosing customer base! That’s bad business.

In the Battlefield Podcast I was listening to last night, they contacted CKMC and he said it was a load of rubbish, basically. He was vague, as usual, not denying any new stuff down the line, but it seems pretty unlikely reading between the lines in his statement.
