Shame EA killed BF2 before its time, its so much more enjoyable than 2142 and still a great game

I talked to MadManX79 earlier tonight, he assured me the information he had contained nothing about the ranking system being removed or changed, so everyone can stop worrying about that!

I consider that good news. The ranking system is a huge part of BF2, and removing it would pretty much deal a huge blow to their paying customers who have spent countless amounts of time moving up the ranks and racking up medals. The mod community might think that removing stats will help their mods be more popular, but I couldn't disagree more. If people are choosing to play on ranked servers instead of your mods, that means they obviously like ranked games more than your mods. Removing the ranking system will just move them onto 2142, because they will still like ranked games more than your mods.

Your all talking about EA dropping the support for BF2....ahhmmm right, can they drop something that WASENT there in the first place ?

me as a moder, why I have to use old tools, and plug ins that fit older versions of my moding software(in this case plug ins only work on Maya 6).

Why must I suffer with an old editor that crashes, stalls, slows down everything, its ridicules, if there ever was support for this game, then wouldn't they realse a decent editor after all of their promises to "help and cooperate with the modding community"....right.

And lets cross fingures and hope that EA wont buy ID software or any other good company that makes and actualy supports their games,

The game relies on the pointing/ranking system. A lot of the satisfaction of playing is getting a good score and rising ranks. I think getting rid of it would b a disaster for the game

For some people yes. But if the official did go offline, other non official ranking systems would pop up. Again, look at CS for an example of this. It is possible. Infact you'd probably see far more people sticking too favourite servers in order to see their 'server stats'.

The Ranking System isn't the be all and end all of BF2.

I'm still hoping its something to do with the modding community, perhaps a patch for the editor to actually make it possible to do work in it without it crashing after half an hour. Would be nice :)

Yea, people like to know they're achieving something anyways... it'd wear down that you play for the hell of it.

Considering many still play BF2 with a passion, EA should keep on with the patches, etc. If BF2 dies, it's because EA let it die... they have more than enough ability to keep it kickin like Bruce Lee (when he was alive). Just because another game from the series came out doesn't mean you should forget the previous one(s).

They should allow the current ranks and stats to be exported and setup on a community run server if theyre gonna get rid of it, it is only a database after all and the alternative ranking systems are up and running
