It's real simple.
If they want to sell more copies of the game, people need a reason the buy it.
Nr.1 reason why people would buy the game this day, after a year and a half from release?
Because they have seen screenshots and videos of mods wich they would love to play.
But to play them, they have to buy the game first.
Just check on battlefield 1942, you know how many extra copies of that game where sold because of mods?
No, its not 10%, not even 20%, not even.. ah just do a search on it and you will be suprised.
if there would not be a mod like desert combat, I never bought the game, thats for sure.
So, whats keeping people from playing mods?
Yep.. ranking system.
So what happens if the ranking system stays?
mod teams go off to other games.
But with no ranking system people will play the mods and because of that mod teams will bring their mod to the next level, to make it look better, create more maps, weapons, vehicles, etc.
Wich eventually leads to selling more copies, cause more people will be interested in the mods.
Its the mods that keep the game running with different styles of gameplay, takes the mod to vietnam, or WW2, or the gulf war.
So people are playing on ranked servers, only because they want that unlock weapon?
Ahum, there seems to be some mods with those weapons and a lot of other great weapons and vehicles that you can use the moment you installed the mod!

But maybe I'm wrong and maybe after a year from now you still love to play another round of strike at karkand,,,
