    The guy posting in that thread is only a moderator, so likely he doesnt know anything first hand, only rumour. I doubt he works for EA per se, just a hired forum moderator.

    I wouldnt lay too much credence to him.

    Another point worth noting is that 2/3 of his posts are just him talking himself up, and saying how he loves stirring them up and that kind of thing, my inclination is either hes full of ****, or EA are telling him to make these posts. Its not likely theyd let him get away with this stuff off his own back.

      Re: Future Battlefield 2 Plans Unveiled Soon?

      I'd love it if it was a new patch that did the following:

      1. BALANCE THINGS.

      a. Don't make aircraft so all-powerful (though I've had quite a lot of success with the AA vehicles, everything else is rather worthless).

      b. Give people a reason to play as assault again and not just medic. Boost the number of smoke grenades to at least 3, and give Assaults the full sprint like the light weight troops have. They're supposed to be the guys running into the fight anyway.

      c. Give engineers more repair points. It's ridiculous to stand, exposing yourself, repairing things all match (20 minutes or so) and come out with only 8 points.

      d. For the love of anything, make Claymores destructible from grenades. Land mines are ok since they're supposed to be underground anyway, but claymores are not. Claymores are supposed to be used sneakily, when an enemy doesn't expect it, not as an offensive tool that's indestructible to everything in the game except engineer wrenches (too bad the engineer usually explodes from the claymore five hundred miles away before he can disarm it).

      2. FIX GLITCHES - How many patches in and we still get CTD's, blue tag/red tag glitches, etc. And improve the network code dangit. It's not a good sign when you knife a prone guy five times before he turns around and kills you in one shot, despite the fact both of you have pings under 70.

      3. ADD AT LEAST ONE EURO FORCE MAP - This one sounds like an odd request, but it's not. Adding a free map for a booster would help encourage sales of the booster packs and revitalize them, making them more common in servers. The variety they offer is great in vanilla BF2, and right now their usage is rather in a dismal state. I picked Euro Force because the European army is only in those three maps right now, and because it's the less popular of the two boosters right now (only one constantly filled popular server for it that I can think of).

      This was the funniest thing I've seen in years!

      It's so true it hurts.

      It's like a Darwin Award in the making.

        That and perhaps they will make some of the major mods like POE2, FH2, and PRMM official mods and ranked? I won't hold my breath, but I would be super happy with everyone getting the booster packs even though I paid for them (just so I can play with other people!).

        But I think I am being too optimistic here. My real guess is that they will say only one more patch coming and they fixed the J10, Red Tag, and some other stuff.

            It might not be a good thing at all to make those mods "official mods". That would imply Dice taking credit for the modders' work, and worse may give them some administrative control over the mods. That means rushed crap and deadlines where there shouldn't be any. I'm quite happy leaving Forgotten Hope 2 in the hands of those who love working on it because they love to. The difference is always apparent.

            Furthermore, as far as I remembered the FH2 developers aren't seeking nor do they want a ranking system in FH2. Turns the game into nothing but a stat fest and ruins teamwork because then all the stat-addicted people infest the game. There will be points in individual rounds, but no recorded stats.

              I hope they give up the ranking system and make all those hard-coded things (unlocks for an example) open to modders.

                Lets get one thing clear, if stats support for BF2 ends the game will die quicker than dogs in a kebab shop in turkey. You have unranked servers and the mods go play them, ohh that's right no one plays them because peps want to rank up and get something out of their efforts in game. Nubs that want stats stopped usually never play BF2 for any length of time and suck at it. Ranking is whats keeping BF2 so popular after over nineteen months on the shelves.

                  Counterstrike is a perfect example of a game living and being played without an official ranking system.

                  bf2 = 15603 online players
                  active servers = 853

                  bf2142 = 10536 online players
                  active servers = 450

                  (taken from bf2monitor.com)

                  I think thats the problem that EA currently have. They're paying money to develop a game that is unpopular. Surely, should they not see the figures and realise that 2142 has been a bit of a flop. Mods aren't taking to the new engine and it's 'restrictions' and looking at the figures, neither have the players.

                    Go play Counter Strike then. Incase you hadn't noticed its laiden with hackers, pricks and daft kids who are only interested in owning. Games are over in 3 seconds and unless you enjoy playing dust2 for hours on end all night the games are reptive and dull!

                    Its stupid to even mention BF2 and Counter Strike in the same breath, they are completely diffrent types of FPS - BF2 is much more than a FPS and the stats reflesct this.

                    The biggest problem with the stats is that one of the earleir patches took all the long term playablitiy out of the game by reducing the rank/award points and by making it entirely possible for every play to get every award. This means people play with certain kits/vehicles for set times soley for points and times. With the old ranking/awards system some awards would have been far too ridiclous to attempt to get so those who hate playing with various kits wouldnt be as tempted to start just to get the badge, they would have stuck with what they know and mastered that kit/vehicle.

                      this talk about the ranking system ending was floating around a week or two ago and most everyone said it was bull. counterstrike is fine, because it was rank-free from the start. but when you already have a ranking system and then you decide to take it away, it will ruin the game for some and piss off many.

                          It is absolutely rediculous to think that EA would ever, ever, ever take away the ranking system. Then you would see an exodus of players. Like or love it, ranked is here to stay. People love getting the award, the drum roll, you can't take that away. It is up to us to stop playing bf2 for a while and all get on some mod servers to support great mods. And as for that, where are all the mods? So why are people complaining? I know whats out there but we need more. Almost 2 years now. I also know that EA has to support the mods.

                            that's not really a solution.

                            i doubt anyone bought bf2 BECAUSE of the ranking system. You're argument is non sequitor in my opinion.

                              I don't think 2142 has been a flop at all. They recycled the BF2 engine saving millions of dollars in development. Even if they sold a mere quarter that they sold of BF2 it would be a success.

                              I don't think EA cares too much about BF2 players quitting the game. They make a small cut off ranked servers and that's it. Most people who want the game already have it so they are not going to lose many sales if they cut rank support. (Those late comers wont even know what they are missing)

                                2142 is a flop. Its not about saving money on the development, but a shrinking market share is bad for investors and game players alike. No one wants less servers to choose from and less players to play against, and no investors want shrinking sales.

                                Its been out barely 2 months and boosters are already coming out for the game, how sad is that?
