It wasn't an insult, it was a thanks. As in, I am happy POE2 released us with a teaser of what the complete and final project will become, just as the original POE was when it was slowly being released.

As for the release date, I'm just hoping to play a large portion of the final product with what's readily available, if only because I am anxious.

That definitely needed to be said. Talent is so much better when its backed up by class and honesty. :salute:

I know, machstem<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_1361432", true); </SCRIPT>, I was just doing philosophy about your comment
PoE will hopefully grow a lot from the base of its first release but all the team could leave moding and travel to Tibet to become budist monks and the players would still be able to play a really polished mod, the actual released version.

About the 'release early, release often' paradigm can just work when a solid base is done, that or you are sure your player base will forgive an horrible first version, but I am not sure actual mods can survive that. To speak about mods like CS or DoD, done 8 years ago, as examples for actual mods strategies could be not really scientific

Well, Desert Combat was done 3-ish years ago and remains the most popular BF franchise mod so far, it had a dodgy first release and a 45 day release cycle.

Taking FH as an example, I see no reason why a full set of solid, well coded hand weapons, 4 or 5 good maps and several well coded vehicles shouldnt be considered a solid first release. The first release should outline and establish a mods gameplay, not its full content.

            Also a diferent example:

DC was arcade, they can make just two tanks and two planes and it works
DC was a totally diferent experience from vanilla BF42, more sexy for people, do you know a masses sucess mod with the same theme of the vanilla game?, I don't
Very very very good timing, Iraq Invasion, DC was even showcased in the CNN

I am not telling frecuent releases are a bad idea, just that the first release must be solid, first version of FH1 for BF42 had too many bugs and unpolished stuff, we had hundreds thousands downloads, just a ridiculous porcentage of them stayed with the mod, lot of persons are not willing to download the second version of a mod if the first one dissapointed them

Quit nagging they dererve more then harrasment for thier solid efforts. And remember when it is released the community contributes a great deal of fresh content. As they still do for the original FH! I just hope one day the full download for FH2 along with map packs is at least 12 gigs, by then we will have the japs, italians and hopefully the canadians!

Yes, I am a dev of a mod, and yes, I also believe this to be a sound way of releasing a mod. Different strokes for different folks. You say that releasing an unpolished first release will turn people off of FH, I say that not releasing over such an extended period has already done this. I have this same arguement with my team members as well, so don't think I am singling anyone out. I thought for sure that with both FH and XWW2 doing the African front, they would have released by now, because it is the same scenerio used by the game...some things could have been re-used, if only as place-holders, for a first release.

And as far as FH's first release being a mistake, I'd have to say that only the devs feel that way...no one else did. I was there, and I saw the reactions of the players on the servers and in the forums. And over all the subsequent releases, I watched, too. Even the final release had critics, all mods will have these no matter how polished they are. Perfection will never release a mod, he's a terrible worker...

I think Desert Combat was FH1s problem, not its bugs. The vast majority of downloaders were probably people who had been playing DC for 3 or 4 months and wanted to try something different. After trying it they went back to DC.

That would be my assessment. I think the same senario can be seen in PoE2 right now. It had huge numbers of players upon release, but after a while theyve gone back to BF2 where they can statwhore. theres nothing at all wrong with PoE2, infact most people agree it is superior in gameplay to BF2 in almost every way, but people for some reason have chosen to go back to BF2.

So true so frakn... true. Why stats are so importent these days is beyond me.
The POE2 team worked hard and long, very hard and long to bring the fans a totaly new experience to bf2 or at least a totaly free expansion to bf2 and yet player numbers these days hardly seem worth the effort the team put into it.
I still cant come to terms why DICE/EA has yet to let us (the modders) access the contraints.py so that mods can at least finish our "end of round" statistics.
If there is one thing that pokes me in the eye everytime i do play PoE:2 its all those N/A, N/A,N/A statistics you get at the end of round.

Not to mention POE2 has been out for a very long time now and have been shinning light on 2 of your products BF:V and BF:2, but yet you guys havnt given us the time of day to "spotlight" us. What gives. I know a little bit of spotlight might up our player numbers, throw us a bone here will ya!

This always was and will be the best mod out there for BF....what's hard to take is the long wait for a first release....they make it perfect, yes i want it that way but it's really hard to wait for it.....i'll stick to EA's mod then...Bf2142...

If there is one thing that pokes me in the eye everytime i do play PoE:2 its all those N/A, N/A,N/A statistics you get at the end of round.
why doesn't EA drop that crap...i mean, they did quit the Bf2 stats thing for their mod bf2142....why the hell are they still limiting access to those stats files?

it all went down to hell when EA bought DICE...look what bf2142 brought to us...advertisements which generate money out of thin air and still they want 50 bucks for a frigging mod....

but hey, it's only the beginning...i heard that hellgate:london will cost a monthly fee when u want to play the multiplayer part of the game....everyone jumps on the money train...i hate capitalism but no one cares...damn i didn't want to rant that way it just burst out of me...

Dont be surprised when all the talented MOD devs have given up on EA and moved to other formats, hint hint.

Frontlines is where I will be for sure. They are going to actually support and help mods out. They know it will only help them and thier sales numbers .

Plus, the UR3 engine will let us work on content, not chase problems with a buggy editor/engine. .

Is it worth it to keep us down and make expansion packs? Or to get a stronger fan base that holds on to your original prodeuct for much longer?

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

EA marketing strategy is what made EA the giant empire they are today. Their company policy is to make money. Games are products to sell to teenagers and aged geeks. Teenagers for the most part have too much money and free time and a very short attention span. They are fast consumers, who move on to the "next big hype" which lasts for a couple of years, tops.

FH is not amod for EA's target. It demands knowledge of WW2 weaponry, geostrategic conflicts, and overall knowledge of history before and after that time span. Some teenagers and ww2-buffs have such knowledge, but not the great majority of teens. Most are plain dumb and uneducated.

Not to mention kids usually prefer arcade, fast paced modern weaponry war games. EA wants those north-american and european kids money, and they sell them what they want.

FH is a minority game and it will always be - and thank God for that, cause I don't want the average BF2 retards on my FH servers.
