Ok, I did this, but I've tried 2 different maps now and I got a CTD on both of them.

Well to be honest, some of the maps will work and the other might not work.

Ok. I tried Gulf of Oman 64 and in crashed in mid-game, and I tried Dragon Valley 64 and it crashed while loading.

I think I have the latest version of PR, but I don't have the 1.41 patch because I thought it only affected multiplayer and I can't play multiplayer on my internet. Should I download it?

First Unistall PR then install the 1.41 Patch then reinstall PR .4 and you should be fine.

Unless you are planning on running a server all you need is the client files.
