Re: Looking Back on Battlefield 2

Yay, lets justify the crude behavior of DICE by illustrating how much time you've spent playing the game. I've played ~400 hours and I spent too much on the game. 3/4th of the time I have owned it it has been buggy as hell, running poorly, or crashing before I could even play. Now its completely nerfed, and I don't even enjoy playing it... not because I gradually got bored with the gameplay but because DICE killed the game.

I'm sorry, but any development team that will essentially say "We screwed up on your first game, but buy the second one that we developed at the expense of fixing the first, and we'll get it right." You have to be absolutely insane or stupid to go for that bat squeeze. This is possibly the first game in history released on such a massive scale that is dying because of the stupidity of the development team as opposed to the eventual boredom that comes from an old game.

Good Job Dice:banana: I'll be praying for your bankruptcy.

PS: And anyone who really believes that they won't do the same crap with 2142, the joke's on you! Bad Company has already been announced and will leave 2142 out of the picture as soon as its released. When DICE shat out BF2, at least they tried to clean it up some, 2142 is just going to fester on the carpet for a few months until the dog eats it.

      Dear Lars,

It wasn't just the first patch that brought as many problems as it fixed. Also, don't "look back" on BF2, look forward on it. You guys still have a huge mess to clean up.

      Best Regards,
      The Battlefield 2 Community

I dont know about the bankruptcy part but your post pretty much sums it up.

BF2 was a good effort but ultimately it was neglected in favor of a shiney new 2142 and that is what is going to kill the modern day war games other than AA.

I dont like the way there writting off BF2.

'we werent sure what were doing so yea BF2 sucked, sorry but we promise the $50 you spend on 2142 will be better spent!'

Sorry not going to happen, make my first $50 well spent before you expect me to bring my business back.

woops just read Dethreds post and yea pretty much my point as well.

Yea makes me sick, thats what destroyed BF2 in my opinion. Completely destroyed what made Battlefield series great. This E-Penis esc stats obsession completely turned me off stock BF2. Havent been on a stock server in over 6 months, and dont plan on going back.

yeah but it brings in alot of money for them so its not going to go away anytime soon....

and what about collision detection, they say they improved the collisions for BF2 but try standing on a moving vehicle going more than 10mph....

these people have their priorities mixed up and they sux cause there is still a slue of bugs in BF2
i wonder what those bastards are going to buy with my $50?

i agree, with the release of bf2142 just around the corner, they once again are forced to put the lipstick on the old pig, but you know a pig is still a pig, and bf2142, or whatever they call it, just like bf2 is full of bugs... which we will pay and spend the next year finding and complaining about, and life goes on, until the red communist chinese take over...

I think bf2 was worth the $50 bucks, however I dont think it was ever a very good game. Will I buy bf2142? I'll play the demo and see how it is.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you must not a be modeller or animator. Heck HL2 gives you a copy of XSI. When DICE won't even update their maya tools. And hammer is a much better editor then BF(crash O matic)editor.

Revoluti0n, I respect your opinion. But I highly disagree with it. If I played BF2 in a movie theatre I would agree. But I purchased a CD. And a computer, monitor, hard drive....... Basicly invested alot of money into a machine to play BF2. Me being from the BF42 days. Both Vietnam and this game have turned into a pile. BF2 did't start bad, all it needed was a bug fix here or thier and weapon adjustments here and there. Then it became this. And still isn't yet fixxed. I've still gotton CTD's. When I never got one in BF42. And I haven't touched the surface of what EA/DICE have done. Don't get me started on the B.S. reason why the rank server's are controlled by EA. You can't remember what happend in the demo version of bf2. Well....:hmm:

Re: Looking Back on Battlefield 2

The problem with the BF2 DEVs seems to be the same problem that America's Army and virtually every other game has. They listen to one side of the players, the most vocal ones because, after all, the squeaky wheels - get the oil.

DEVs have the power to ruin a game (AAO is going down big time) like BF2 and AAO because they change game play. Be it blast radius, one weapon has too much power, etc., etc., and then they dumb it down which p!sses people off.

IMHO, no dev should ever, ever, ever mess with game play, period, yet, this is what devs do. They open forums about how to essentially change the original specifications of the game due to the communities over abundance of whiners, which, probably equates to less than 1% of the total playing population.

So why do it? Stick with the original specs for your game. Do not change them. Set it in stone. Maybe let modders do whatever they want, but you, the developer should never alter game play for those players prefer the 'base' versions of the game.

                          Ask yourselves two questions:
                          1) Did even one of you utterly not in enjoy playing BF2 when it first came out - unpatched?

                          2) When did you start getting annoyed or losing patience with the game? Why?

You can post all the dopey interviews you want – but who cares? Do DEVs really listen? Is there one present here or anywhere that actually reads that people are p!ssed that they keep changing game play? Doubt it. Because they get their orders from dopey producer that tells them what to do based off of stupid one sided forums, whiners, complainers, and people that probably, generally, suck at gaming – because they get owned all day, and their solution? Hey! Let’s F with game play!! Yeah!

I was huge into AAO v1.x – what happened? DEVs F’d up the game.
I was huge into Tribes 2 – what happened? DEVs F’d up the game.
I’m still into BF2 – but the DEVs are trying my patience, and others too from what I read.

I'll throw in one or two more tidbits.

They add things no one asked for and generated various negative tatics that made it possible to beef one's score. (Vehicle drop + Karkand Hotel Roof = BAD IDEA)

Sure after three months they managed to fix that little bit but not the server crashing etc.

It is my firm opinion that Retail war games involving shooting are made by people who like to nerf and fat finger the code into a uneditable mass of FUBAR and patch the community out of existance while shoveling the next great retail steaming pile down the line. (Usually in time for christmas.)

                              Dont believe me?

Check out the string of trumpet heralds calling out the silver song of a new and wonderful 2142 soon to be bestowed upon us by a grateful develioper who has found the religion!
