    Looking Back on Battlefield 2

The guys from ComputerAndVideoGames.com have posted up a new interview with Lars Gustavsson of DICE about the history of Battlefield 2. Here's a portion of the article:
    BUGS
Gustavsson: We were off to a really bad start when the first patch created as many bugs as it solved. Our testing process hadn't been worked out; the way we go from bug-fixing to verifying. You spend two-and-a-half years of your life working hard to make a good game, so to then have part of the game's reputation tainted with bugs was upsetting. That puts it high on the agenda of things to change. So the whole of last year was spent getting the system working in the right direction and we're now at a stage to take BF2142 into an open beta, just to make sure that we deliver something good. It's been a long, tough road to walk down.

This article is a great read for any fans of Battlefield 2. Be sure to check out the entire article by clicking here.

Yeah, don't know if I like this whole "looking back on BF2". They aren't done. They love the "modding community". That most be why they don't design and release thier own tools for the community. I've seen more 3rd party tools then DICE tools floating around. Why did they sell trama studios like a week after the release of bf2. They need to focus on fixing this game. Not giving interviews about how 2142 will be better.

but still, there is the possibilty that this will ACTUALLY be good

I wish bf2 would have been like it was going to be ALONG time ag (those of you who remember the "divided city" trailer" lower poly stuff, but 124 player and well, it just looked amazing. You would have thought they would have done stuff liek in bf42 when you dive your accuracy goes away, shorter jumpping so less bunny hopping. If you know bf2, you know 2142 looks cool, but wont be.

You mean BF2142 could be the game which I previously buyed as BF2? Sorry... fool me one time shame on DiCE, fool me second time shame on me.

I really don't know where all those (former) BF2 players take this naivety for willing to buy BF2142...

Whether you think it is BS or not, it's the word from the man himself. Maybe in reality what happened was that some poeple had some completely unrealistic expectations of the game in general. This is not excusing the quality of some of the patches released. I've seen a common thread in all the "Wow this is disappointing" threads, that is that those people enjoy complaiing more than they do playing. Thank God no one is forcing you to keep playing right? But I see you are enjoying the game so much so you are proud to display your stats in your sig, ona BF2 forum no less.

I understand your hesitation to play or buy 2142. However, people have to ask themselves, "Did I get my monies worth out of the game?". If the answer is no, then you should not buy the game and move away in general from ALL things BF2. If the answer is yes, then it is a game like any other. Most adults spend $50 or more on dinner and a movie for 2 anyway, so it's not like you are being taken for $100,000 or anything. When you are done watching the movie, they don't owe you another 400+ hours of movies. When you are done eating, the restaurant doesn't owe you a steak. So I ask you, how is it that this is supposed to make sense?

This method of attempting to equate their experience with BF2 to a major robbery has been played out to death 100 fold, in many cases user error has been the culprit (read some posts in the tech and support sections for proof). It's always easier in those cases to blame someone else for ones own mistakes. The game was never perfect, it never will be. Everyone has to make the decision to either play it or not, instead of wanting the community at large to coddle them every step of their lives.

Great interview there, but nothing on the C4 issue, constantly changing it's physics.
Especially, with me being from The Sir. Community and we relied so much on stunting and blowing ourselves across Oman. Excuse the pun but it was a big blow to what we are renowned for and what we enjoyed.

Big aspect for me but, maybe not for others.

                        Great interview guys.

Nice read that interview im glad Gustavsson admits the bugs are a stain on the reputation of bf2 proberly one of the best if not the best games around. I personally think they did a great job with bf2 they just need to screw the dead line in future (if they can get away with it) to get the extra game modes in and make sure they eliminate as many bugs as possible before release.

Here is my thought about the article:
                            1. We're lucky if we see Patch 1.5
                            2. They used trauma like a cheap rag, then kicked their butts out after a week of bf2 release.
                            3. This is a big "we're sorry about BF2, but we promise 2142 will be better". My response to that is "fool me ones shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".
In conclusion, no doubt BF2 had the potential to be the greatest game out there for many many years, but very poor support and greed have left a sour taste, especially the BF series veterans such as myself.

Revoluti0n well I know I have my stats there, but 2142 will be just another waste of peoples money in my opinion. True i do play Bf2, but the only thing that is driving me to play is the modding community, which i have to say Ea did a gj with releasing tools. But all in all i agrree with Catia
