i cant even open the game anymore i get that begining BF2 screen like the one where u can see ur desktop still and then my screen goes black and then im back where i started the desktop anybody having this problem?

yep completely shagged, got optimizing shades when loading up the level, thats normal, then crashed, now it loads up a level then goes back to desktop 1/2 way through loading the level.

guess i will have to reinstall the whole game from the original disks and get the full patch, why even bother releasing incremental ????

Well 1.3 gave me one of those, as EA puts it "rare graphics crash",
and 1.4 didnt fix it, basically when i start a game, after joining map i get to class selection and then it freeze's just like 1.3 did, no ctd, no black screen, just a full on lock up!! (only happens with 1.3 - 1.4, no other earlier patches) :laugh:

Ohh and as of this moment, surprisingly the official forums are down, what a joke.

**EDIT** I also done a clean install of BF2 with the full 1.4 patch **

The following goes to everyone having problems starting the game after patching:

Atleast in my case, after patching the game (I used full update), the game changed it's Hz display mode to 60 so I had to also change my Hz setting to 60 before starting the game, otherwise the game would exit to desktop. After changing your Hz setting and starting the game, go to your video options and there change the used resolution and Hz you desire to use when playing the game.

Yes it changed my "Refresh rate" (Hz) to 85Hz, which put it out of my moniter range, so i switched it to 70, which i know works,
However the games still crashes unfortunately

You think people are going to buy 2142 if you can't get this one right. The game has been around for over a year and still we are left with a half A$$ product.

Yeah and whats worse is that...2142 is based on the BF2 engine, so will prolly suffer the same problems

i couldnt be studded checking through all the previous pages so ill ask now, a question for those that have already installed the patch;

is this like 1.3 where i should install the full patch and not the incremental or does the incremantal work just as good this time round?

i used the incremental from ausgamers and it worked. just played 2 rounds jalalabad. so far so good. but i found a little bug already. spotted enemies several times and there was no spotting sound although i could see the message.

btw: version is now 1.1.2963-795.0

in the CoH beta if theres a problem they get a patch out for the beta in less than a week some times
