Man, those textures look great. I really hope they get a release out the door soon! Folks need something other than Vanilla-BF2 to remain interested.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

Did you guys know BF2 has it's 1 year anniversary this month?
I'm, kinda disappointed there aren't more mods released, until now we only have 2 full conversions, OPK and USI (both of which are great, but still early releases).

Knowing that many mods started work BEFORE the game was released, i'm surprised none of the big mods have released anything yet, like PoE2 or FH2.
Of course BF2 is more complex, and players and modteams expect higher quality models, but i guess i'm just worried this will turn out like in Operation Flashpoint, where no good mods where released before everyone had moved on.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

USI and OPK are not total conversions, no ofence meant to those great mods, they have also an ambitious scope but it's obvious they are not total conversions.

Well, even not being TC's they released 1 month ago so just figure the amount of time required to release a total conversion, like FH2, Pirates, First Strike, BF1918 or EoD, we need totally new statics, vehicles, weapons, player models, sounds, etc, etc, etc.

Lately it's very tiresome, half the comments in the news of every mod are "when it's released?", "how you need so much time?", "if you don't release before _SIMS: wild party in read quarter_ I will not play your mod" and all that jazz. We loose time explaining you 1 year is nothing to make a total conversion in any game (for BF42 was exactly the same), so give us a break

            .

First off, without wanting to be in anyway insulting to either OPK or USI, neither of those mods are total conversions. No complete total conversion mod has yet been released for the BF2 engine.

secondly, The only stuff being made BEFORE the release were a few models here and there. The real work couldn't exactly start until the editor came out AFAIK and with that came a plethora of issues which have hampered mod teams up until this time.

I hope that sheds some light on this situation for you (albeit from a latecomers perspective).

May i just add i find it rather dissapointing that each FH release brings a multitude of rants over the release date. The FH team are working exceptionally hard to bring you all a FREE high quality total conversion ww2 FPS mod and all most people seem to want to do is tell them to "hurry up". Sure i can understand that alot of people are anticipating FH2 but i hardly think stating the obvious and pessemistically looking to the future is going to in anyway help or encourage this team to keep working let alone release any faster. Why slap the gift horse?

But seriously - why do i bother? patience seems to be a rare virtue these days.

To those who can wait i applaud you, and encourage you to show your support in the way you see fit.

What qualifies as a total conversion?
Their goal is to convert the whole game, or at least most of it, including statics, but as i said, they are still early releases, so they started off releasing a mod with new maps, vehicles, skins and weapons.
This is the approach most mods had in BF42, remember DC 0.1 with just a new tank, the very buggy Apache, and people still driving around in Tigers on El Alamein? People loved it, and had tons of fun, despite it being only a slight change from vanilla.
They gradually included more vehicles and weapons, then went on to do new statics and maps.

I was kinda hoping more mods would do that this time around, part of the fun was waiting for the next release, and having fun with the new maps and vehicles.

Maybe the bigger modteams are aiming too high for a first release? Seems they want their first release to be complete.

Well, it's their decision to make. I just think it would be kinda sad if most players moved on to BF2142 (which is said to be released as an open beta in two months), before BF2's modscene had a chance to take off...

When does this "Forgotten Hope" take place (in what year and place) and does it have to do with EA's BattleField series???

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

To argue about semantics is hijacking the real point of my friendly rant

Ok, let me tell this so you understand me, I am a FH dev and I tell you FH1 WAS NOT a total conversion in BF42...well, who cares?, FH1 added more content than lot of TC's or even retail games, and I am sure USI and OPK will reach the same kind of ambitious scope when they complete their mods.

Desert Combat WAS a total conversion in BF42.

We are not aiming too high, we know not solid first releases are very negative for mods because we have learned with our experiences in old releases in the other BF games. Desert Combat is not a valid example, it was the first modern warfare mod for a totally new kind of game, the battlefield franchise, and had a perfect timing with the real life politics, hell, even in the CNN they showcased news about DC, so yeah, nobody cared about some tigers in their first release. But now the BF users have gourmet palate and don't acept so easily as you think a mod with 2 vehicles, 3 weapons and the rest plain vanilla, they will not download the second version of the mod doing this mistake.

Once time again, why a WW2 mod must be concerned about the release of a sci-fi game like BF2142, hell, I am even not concerned about the release of CoD3, so figure it out. The players interested in the WW2 theme will download the WW2 mods done for BF2, no matter how many Quake Wars, BF2142's or Halo's being released

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

Is it so hard to understand we dont want to release a mod with pzIIs vs Abrams? We want it to be a good game, not a lazy rushed out game. Don't like it, go play another mod thats released already.

It is really no skin off our nose if you wont wait... theres plenty of people who know its worth it.

Woah...being mighty defensive here, aren't we?
I'm trying to have a debate, not start a flame war...:hmm:

Yeah i do recognize FH was by far the most complete and detailed mod for BF42. And would probably have qualified for release as a standalone game, like "Red Orchestra".
Is that your goal for FH2? To release a game with so much new content, that EA will consider making a deal with you, to release it as a standalone game?
(If any mod would be good enough for it, I'd say FH2 would be the primary candidate).

Just speculating here, pls. excuse me for expressing my opinion even though im not in your league

Deveolping the game, ussualy makes you an expert, yeah, pretty much.

I have no real interest in Sci Fi themed games. Modern Combat, and classic Theatre battles are my forte.

No - we are not being defensive. Take the time to look back at all our news posts and you will see why this topic is not up for debate or discussion. Its sheer frustration that has ignited this reaction, so your best course of action would be to LET IT GO.

And no - no deals with EA are on the table. I think i speak correctly when i say that we just want to produce a good quality WW2 game from a new engine plain and simple. Noone ever said this would be easy - dont make it harder.

Just make a sticky thread in your forums and write something similiar to what you wrote in your above posts and give a redirect link to anybody who even thinks about asking something regarding a release date and you know that question will arise many times to come.

                                Cheers!
