1.3. These changes should reduce the overall impact of "cartillery" on game play.
    • Crash Fix: We have located and fixed a crash connected to 1.3.
 No more dropping Cars on Snipers or noobs waiting for a plane or chopper.

I bet there will be at least one more booster pack for BF2 and I bet it has a focus on infantry.

The problem is DICE release the patches anyway
You cannot seriously believe that the average joe is going to be able to help DICE
              - how is he going to identify exactly the source of a bug
              - report it correctly

All this will result in is pages of topics in the forums about bugs found - pages that won't and can't all be read by DICE
Closed Beta testing works - the problem is that DICE publish acceptable standard patches instead of striving for high quality.
Too many of you are being swept up in the flattery and ego-massaging by DICE offering an open beta of a patch - stop and think for just 5 seconds
              This cannot work
I'm sorry but that is incredibley pessemistic - to even suggest that the majority of "us" are "being swept up in the flattery" of a potential offer of a open betatest is laughable. How will he identify the bug? report it correctly? - if you think this is hard to setup then you are kidding yourself pal. Sure, the youngens round the community arn't going to be much help, but considering a weighty portion of the community is in the 20+ category and there being alot of clans that base themselves on having age requirements, having an openbetatest isn't actually (in this particular case) such a bad idea. I would elaborate on all this but why bother? its obvious that you have been "swept up" in the easy option of bashing DICE as usual.

                Re: Community Update - 6/16/06

Let me re-state this: Open BETAs are normally meant to evaluate a game BEFORE its release, to help eliminate all other possible bugs more efficiently.

Games are often pushed back months because of bug and exploits that are discovered in pre-release, yet EA/DICE has managed to confuse a large portion of its community into thinking they are in fact playing a final game.

The last year has been an open-beta testing, BF2's actual money making release will be BF2142 because the engine has been thoroughly tested. The game ran great at certain intervals throughout this year, and after all the fixes and patches we're still left with glitches/exploits and bugs.

I like to defend the game as often as I can because I really have enjoyed it thoroughly, but it seems we're left with an unfinished/untweaked engine with so much potential. Maybe another team other than DICE will code and work with the engine and make the game even better than ever, but I'm leaning towards 2142 as my backup: A better and tweaked engine with the very real possibility of someone making a great modern day tactical-FPS-combat mod! :)

                PEACE

I too feel hope when they release a new patch.

BUT... each patch usually adds something we dont ask for, fixes the few things they announce and usually does not fix other problems that in some cases; go back a year.

It's easy to look at new game trailers from other companies burned by EA and see the quality of thier games right off the bat.

On the topic, "New patch," they didn't confirm infantry-only mode. It wasn't mentioned on the list, although they did mention they are working on other things. If you want infantry-only, keep praying.

I really don't think the "shove it" comment was needed, I read the first page and people were like OMG this new patch is BS and EA is horrible etc etc yet those SAME people are posting about how to resolve connection issues and when informed of ea's latest patch they have a ray of hope or that they got promoted etc etc.

With every patch usually comes new problems but with how much is involved with this game that much is slightly expected. I've logged 650 hours of this game and I know I got my money's worth so spare me the "ea burned me for the last time" bs because those people that say that are the ones buying AF or bf2142.

                            ken -

Your first paragraph doesn't make any sense to me - could you explain what you mean? It sounds like you're saying that some people are dissing EA's patch while at the same time helping other people out. What? Et cetera what?

Regarding your second paragraph about EA burning people. Dude. Many people STILL can't play Battlefield 2 because of the unresolved ATi compatability problem introduced in vBF2 v1.2. Further, I, for instance, though I bought Armored Fury, can't actually play it; I get CTD's whenever I try to play any map in the booster pack.

So, basically, though you may not know it, you're the one spewing BS.

One other thing - loving the Battlefield series and hating the seemingly completely incompetent after-launch product support is not contradictory.

Maybe I just view the reality that adding and taking things out of the game will cause issues. We are basically the lab rats and people expect a perfect product every time no matter what. I know there are some people that still can't play bf2, all I know is that there are still tons that do. I haven't really had major problems with bf2 and I don't know what to suggest to those people. It's been said over and over and over that people need to try reinstallation and repatching with the full patch yet some people still can't play...sorry, I can't diagnose something over the internet with limited amounts of information and some of that may be user error.

I've read threads on people praising the new patch to "fix" their issues then this thread comes out and people are already ****ed off about the news, that is the part I don't get. I'm not spewing bs...I've read this forum long before I was a member and it's the same ol **** and people still complain no matter what. I guess I try to take a different light on the subject and realize that there is tons of information that goes into the game and that making a small change in the game could possibly cause another. I am speaking off my own experience with the games and the ctd's and connection issues and whatever else is wrong with the game and I honestly don't have those problems as much as others, am I grateful? I suppose. Do I care that Johnny just bought AF and now he can't play? Not really.

Anyway, I look forward to the new patch and hope for the best...just seems like it's the cool thing to do is to hop on the "EA/DICE hate wagon" and am still happy with the game that I've purchased.

Off-topic: Has the ATi compatability issue been resolved? I can't seem to find any information one way or the other. My friend says it's still bothering him, and he's fairly technically competent, but can anyone else confirm it?

                                Thanks,

PS - ken, I expect a product that freaking works when it's released. I expect bugs, too, but not **** like this (except, sadly, from EA/DICE). Oh, also, I just reformatted my computer, installed all the latest drivers, and reinstalled Battlefield 2 from scratch. I'm not anywhere close to the minimum system specs and I keep very good care of my computer. I am not the problem, and it's very condescending of you to suggest, however obliquely, that I am.
