        You obviously cannot please everyone.

An open beta test is good news no matter how you want to wave the great flag of pessimism. Just consider that by testing a piece of software across different platforms EA/Dice will have a better grasp of what each patch will result in, bugwise. That's a fact.

An open beta test is standard. How many other developers release their betas to Fileplanet for people to play through, enjoy, and provide feedback on? It's not a bad thing. Every game developer has a budget and that budget does not include the hiring of 1,200+ beta testers.

So from a production and fiscal standpoint, it clearly makes sense.

As far as we gamers go, it will only serve to improve the games we play. The more different PC's are involved in testing, the less likely you are have a problem.

And remember... no one HAS to beta test for EA/Dice. It's not like it's Windows XP or anything. :)

But they do have beta testers, just listen to episode 9... :p

              I want to see more.....
Tuning: Enhanced performance all around. Game now runs like it did when it 1st came out. You no longer need a 2 gigs of ram to run settings on hi, making Hemi happy and feel that the $900+ in upgrades to run BF2 on hi settings is now worth it.

Game Play: Fix AA issue's by replacing SAM's with Volcum's. Now can skill flys a plane and skill shoots down a plane.

                • Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.
WHOAH!!! that was definitely needed from the start.
thank you dice... there, that felt nice to say for a change. :0)

This is an awesome first step to reclaiming the loyalty of lost customers and lost sales EA. The community needs to hear from you even on what you consider to be small issues. If by some small chance you maintain public relations and put the problems the customers are having with your product first instead of last. You will find that this is also a good way to increase revenue. Polyphony Digital is a good example. I will and I'm sure lots more once loyal customers will give you a second chance by buying 2142 if this level of support can be maintained.

                      Re: Community Update - 6/16/06

EA bosses have to be angry with the patch team by now, think of all the money and grief these programmers have caused. I'm sure they would just like to have the game work and not have to spend any more time and money patching and testing.

The thing we don’t know is the contractual agreement that DICE.SE made with EA when they published the game, I’ve read how they don’t make any money until sales goals are reached, only then do they get a royalty from the game. DICE lost out big time on the console version, sales flat-lined at around one million units, they needed to sell four million to earn their keep so to speak. DICE.SE hasn’t been in charge of the patches, that’s been up to another team, again probably wasn’t in their contract for extended support and EA thought they could out-source it cheaper – just a guess on that part but it makes sense given the comments from an interview with DICE.SE. “1.3 … I can tell you that DICE Stockholm had nothing to do with that one!”

Thats awesome that there finally addressing hotpatch and the success armored fury has achieved. Too bad I can't play bf2 without the constant CTD and lost of connection , not to mention the server crashing on occasions. Don't get me wrong , it's a great game but I think EA trying to get people to slowly quit bf2 and getting them ready to buy bf2142.They sure convince me

How badly did they screw the game up to have to take over two months to produce a FIX for a patch that made the game impossible to play for many people.

I think that EA should get their priorities right.
If they want to give us another Map and Mode or what ever. Create a seperate download AFTER they put 100% of their resources into the fix.

Geeez... You would think that things would get better.

I do agree that this fix WILL be a very welcomed fix with lots of damage repair and tweaks and especially giving our unranked servers back the unlocks. But TWO MONTHS, come on, get a grip... Do they just have one programmer working on this!!! :wall:
You a game programmer? If so I think you and a bunch of other guys around here should apply at EA for a job there; I mean you guys are brillant and have the solutions to the ultimate patch where you would never have to patch it again. I don't know why those idiots at EA don't start hiring here on TotalBF2 forum; obviously we have guys that can fix it.

                          Right guys?

beta testing is a great idea!
any1 saying that it isn't should instantly explode.
