EA Community Update - 5/25/06

Only two days after the 1.3 patch release, a community update has been released over at the Official Battlefield 2 Website regarding a hotfix and future updates. The main concern in this update is the server browser.

Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!

After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.

We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.

Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.

The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available."

    Thank you,
The team at Dice and EA
Source: Official Battlefield 2 Website

Thats great news. Thanks for getting that changed so fast. That is, if anyone from EA or Dice is reading this.

Hopefully this will fix the browser, which was really my only main issue.

Has the issue with no unlocks been brought up on the unranked servers?

I imagine it means the gamespy protocol will be reversed to the 1.22 situation.

Excellent news. The server browser was my only real issue with the update. If they fix that, I'll be pleased...

I wonder if this means ASE will work again.

Had you read the post you'd know that you need to check your hosts file. Thank god they released this bit of news because I was about to reformat ever since that patch kept giving me CTD errors.

Now, they don't tell you exactly where the hosts file is, but if you had a brain and did a little bit of research (google.com yet again) you'd find your hosts file in: (windows xp)

                            c:\windows\system32\drivers\hosts

open that file with your notepad, and delete anything related to bf2. I had two different servers and deleting one didn't fix the problem but deleting both did.
