      Re: Firewall

I actually use the firewall that comes with Norton Internet Security 2005 and it works just fine aside from the slow loading time of Symantec products.

                e-herpes

You guys shouldn't be out looking for "loose" connections out there. After all safe-surfing is the best way to prevent an STD. I mean virus...

I nearly peed my pants laughing at this one and incontinence is years way for me yet!!.

Seriously DONT use any "software" firewall they are just an excuse to reap paranoia and are totally useless anyhow. if youve got windows locked down you shouldnt need a firewall at all. Besides what makes you so important you think any hacker wants to own you??.

I have a router so that affords some protection but i havent had a firewall/Antivirus app on my comp now for nearly 2 yrs and i use admin account with no password on my comp!.

                      Zone Alarm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahah aha

the same goes for norton/mcaffee, etc etc etc.

                          Re: Firewall

                          1) Windows firewall is just as good as zone alarm for inbound protection. Firewalls are all the same in this regard.
                          2) Windows FW does not provide outbound protection as ZL does.
                          3) Outbound protection is only as good as the least skilled person with physical access to the computer. If you have a kid that installs filesharing apps and opens up instant messaging or installs that kewl h4xxor tool not knowing the source code - you might as well treat the box as being pwned - unless, of course, you constantly close ports when not in use and only open them when currently used. If you don't then a Windows firewall is all you need.

                          Non-firewall related:
NAT your machine. Double NAT it if you are paranoid.

I could go on, but don't wanna hijack the thread 8)

                            Never mind the firewalls .....,

                            Start>Run>services.msc

                            KILL EM ALL!!!!! ..,

Well not quite all of em lol but there are plenty of sites out there that tell you howto safely turn off everything that you dont need and what e-dangers to look out for.

Only thing i run on my machine is a spyware killer NO AV, NO Firewall, NO admin password!! cmon pwn me .. id like to see it happen!!!! short of been DoS/DDoS'd theres nothing that can touch me, im 110% confident of that.

Get to know howto lockdown your machine and know your surfing habits, with habits come pitfalls, know what they are.
