    Re: The Iron Gator

I've never had a hard time getting onto the carrier being on the MEC team. The chopper is the fastest/easiest way, but the APC and boats work well too. The APC can shoot a lot further then an AT rocket so we always take the APC far off the stern of the carrier and just pelt the guys camping. 2 RIB boats with squadleaders in them and the squad spawns once the rib gets inside...We use the APC for fast spawning too on the squadleader until a MEC flag is captured inside the carrier. Seems to work well everytime we do it this way.

question... WTF is a US carrier doing that close to a small MEC base w/ a skeleton crew. hahaha IDIOTS!

anyways, the layout of the ship is very simple. atleast it was for me, but that's me... and yes, bf2 was nerfed out so that any dipsh*t with $50 could feel like a game pro. Not that i claim to be, but hell.. gimme a challenge! that's what it's about, learning the weapons ...the vehicles.. ect ect.

it's just sad to see sf start off as such crap and never go anywhere, and now it looks like it's getting phased out. good thing they require 250 per army for those medals we'll never get! = D

The most important duty for the APC is to take out the AA on the Essex. It usually takes one shot from the main cannon and 3 or 4 small rounds. Otherwise the AA on the Essex will keep the transport helicopter and the attack helicopter from taking off. The US helicopter is pretty easy to take out with the mobile AA, and the 2 stationary AAs. If you cant take out the US helicopter, at least you keep it hidden on the other side of the ship. After that the US flags are defenseless except for a few AT guys.

            I hate that map because
A: I have terrible FPS lag on the ship
B: No grapple, it blows the whole match really because you have 2 entry points, aerial and the load bay, both can be held with attack chopper/ships AA's and infantry downstairs, its total pants

It is actually good fun once you get inside the ship... What you need is the MEC team to secure themselves a flag or two on the ship, and then you have a good match with lots of close-quarter stuff.

If the MEC can't get onto the ship, it's not much fun for either team. The MEC team are constantly frustrated by getting owned, and the US team don't have anyone to shoot so they stand around bored. But the same can be said of Wake Island on vanilla BF2 as well - great map, if the US can secure a flag or two on the island. Otherwise, it sucks.

                /agree

You know I kind of wish the map started out with MEC having 1 flag on the far end of the carrier, as if they had just established a landing.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the 16-player map size of Iron Gator has the MEC already with a flag on the ship when the round starts...

It does...but it only has 100 tickets... won't last long...

                      Re: The Iron Gator

Ah... I never play the 16-player maps... I find them too small and restrictive, with no space to do anything. I prefer the wider expanse of the 32 and 64 player maps - better for flanking people, and playing tactically instead of just always going head to head and meeting force-on-force, slugging it out til the end. Just my opinion, of course - I know there are plenty of people who like that style of play, but I personally prefer a few more tactical options and the bigger maps provide them. Even just by giving you more flags to go for. When you're on 16-player maps, you're generally looking at only three or four flags, and each team will have at least one each... Pretty obvious what everyone's going to be doing once the round gets underway isn't it? But when there are, say, eight flags to choose from, and the space to attack them from several different directions....... Far more interesting, IMO.

Yeah I've never really played on the smaller servers either. I've always figured "the more the merrier" when it comes to online games. It sounds like a completely different style of play though.

I just remember playing a 16-player Sharqi map once... That was totally crap - and Sharqi is probably my favourite vanilla map. There are only three flags on 16-man versions of that map, and you basically attack alone one axis only - almost funneled into a kill zone. I found it very boring.

I've never played any 16-player size maps on SF so they might be different. But I still prefer the bigger servers - more targets to shoot at! Lol

Yeah, true! And more tickets I enjoy the 64 servers...but beginning to like the 32's as less lead lag.
