    The Iron Gator

I was on this map on MEC SF and to start our transport helicopter wasn't there for some reason so we take the boats and jet ski's over and as soon as we enter the back of the carrier boom, 3 people with AT's and like 5 with PKM's and some other people, I went into revearse with the boat while my teammates got killed, then I started shooting at them with the RIB and got a kill or 2 but there was a medic there, but I got killed by the AT. spawned again hopped in the APC went back up into the carrier with it bad idea AT people every where, managed to get a few more kills, dived out and climbed up ladder but got pelted with grenades. Transport helicopter finally appeared idk wtf was up with that but it was too late.

I mean usually I'd just take the transport helicopter with a bunch of people and dive out on the carrier, but it didn't appear and there was no chance getting in the back of the carrier.

I think you should be able to go to the side of the carrier on a boat, stand in the boat and throw a grappling hook up the side of the carrier and climb up.

This is exactly why I hate Iron Gator. Always a struggle to get onto the carrier, I find. If the MEC can grab a flag or two on the ship, then it gets good with lots of close quarter stuff (although I get lost every time I'm below decks lol), but all too often it's just total ownership by the SEALs, mowing down the MEC as they try to attack.

I like the idea of being able to grapple from the boat though - interesting. Don't think it'll ever happen, but interesting anyway...

The grapple idea onto the elevators and walkways from an RHIB has been passed around. Still no justification to remove the standard grapple just for one map.

<3 Gator. The most teamwork required map of them all.
Nothing like being a MEC assault, while parashooting from 500 feet in the air. And dropping on the other side of the carrier, filled with killhungry anti-tanks gives me goosebumps. If the SEALs lose, MEC can certainly say that their opponents are newbies.

The advantage of grapple hooks on this map is the main scale of the map. If the MEC have them, boom *MEC victory music*.

I have been on many teams that have won this map from the MEC side!

You don't need anything more than what you have now. You just have to play as a team and push hard to get the first spawned point established.

I’m not going to go into details, but I will say that most teams are attacking the wrong side of the boat IMHO.

I can't tell which side of the boat is which! It all looks the same to me... I want GPS! Someone in-game to tell me "take the next door on the left, run up the stairs, side-step the claymore, flag is on the overhead walkway by the boxes - watch out for the exploding barrel next to it". Is that really too much to ask? Failing that, I'm gonna have to do something drastic, like actually learn the map or something!

ROTFLMAO! Thats a good point. It does seem after reading the many posts (whines) about taking out art, claymores, Dolphn Diving, Bunny Hopping, etc.. Most people think that they should be able to go to some book store or website and read an instruction manual on how win battles in BF2/SF/EF!

This game was designed to be an "advanced" FPS game and so many people bought it that didn't have a clue of what FPS games were about and possibly never played any of the past BF games. So they whine to EA/Dice to try to have it Dumbed down (Noobed-up) so they can play like a pro after five hours of game play!

I think before I started BF2 I had at least 2000 hrs in game play between BF-1942, BF-V and the mod that followed (DC/POE).

You know, uasing graple hooks on iron gator would balance the whole thing out, but you know what the WURST FACT is ?

graple hooks en ziplines where originaly on the map, but the patch for making SF compatible with BF2, removed the graple hooks and stuff , can you beleive this ????????????

want proof, reinstall SF , don't install patches, then start a local server running iron gator

well, it's true, it actualy also written in the patch read me file ,
they probably found the map was to balanced, so they needed to find a way to nerf those dam MEC forces, so that they wouldn't stand a chance

Well.. in my own experience on warships, there wouldn't be a hell of a lot for a grapple hook to 'hook' onto. Ziplines wouldnt work either... would a little crossbow bolt puncture a couple of inches of steel?

no, but the point of the hook is to "grab" to something, it doesnt have to pierce it. admittedly, you shouldnt be able to go on the deck, but... at least there are some lower points to grab to.

Erm... my dirty secret... I've never played any of the other Battlefield games in the series. BF2 and SF is my first experience of the franchise. But yeah, I know what you mean, and yes, some people expect to be experts right away - or worse, they expect that tactics they used in other FPS games to work equally well in BF2, and weapons they used in other FPS games to be just as effective. BF2 is different to other games (other non-BF franchise games anyway - it's nothing like UT, Quake, GR, HL etc etc that I've played) and people need to accept that and get used to the way tactics and weapons work in BF2.

I hate getting lost on the carrier (who doesn't hate not knowing where they are or how to get to their next objective??) but I know that it's my own fault that I don't know my way around, no-one else's. I've only had a few rounds on that map, and on some of them the MEC team never even made it onto the ship, so running around below decks never happened.

thats a good point, plus if a ship is anchored off shore you would think you could climb up the anchor chain.
