    Re: explain AT too me.

Something that I thought would have been metioned in this thread is that AT soldiers get 1 point for every shot they land on armour be it an APC or a tank. That would reward the Anti-tanker even if if he is killed in the process - he has made the tank vulnerable enough for the rest of the team to finish the job

It's annoying but you eventually get the hang of it. What i absoloutley hate is taking out APC's

If you look at that, APC's take 9 damage from AT rockets, this means that even if you get 2 shots on it. The guy can bail before it blows up. He has ALOT of time to bail, this is ridiculous. Especially since they are never engineers and always some super kit like Medic or Support. They just mow you down like anything with their G36E/PKM. This results in getting no reward for taking down the enemy APC aswell as getting killed becuase the driver killed you becuase he had the sweet time to bail - get a safe distance away and then hunt you down. I've also done it myself when in APC's

        Re: explain AT too me.

You have to stay down when ATing armour.. there's no point in launching a rocket at it if it can just turn around and make a nice little crater where you're standing. Get on a rooftop (and stay away from the damn walls, especially when fighting an APC) and quickly pop up, launch a rocket, and get back down again. You probably won't destroy a tank by yourself, but you will most likely annoy the crap out of them, make them go away, and make them much easier targets for friendly tanks..

Wich brings me to my next point: AT as support rather than the main force. I find that being AT works much better when I'm aiding tanks, an extra missle on the tracks of an enemy armor can win a tank vs. tank battle. Especially against apcs, one tank shell, then one AT rocket.

Having multiple AT people working together is vital as well. I've done it a few times with friends: 3 or 4 AT people sticking together will make mincemeat out of a tank. Even more so with a medic or support guy to back them up.

          Re: explain AT too me.

Vets makes a good point with AT teams. On a 64 player map the ability exists to have up to 64 AT players, yet there may only be two or three tank spawn points. If one adjusts the kit by reducing reload time or increasing power it would have a multiplier effect times the number of AT kits in game and more players would play the kit as it would be a more effective kit. This would quickly yield no tanks on the map - ever. The kit seems powered about right in this context.
The crates and engineers in vehicles tend to be the magical cure problem - I totally agree with you. I would suggest that making the repair speed of the crate and engineers in vehicles be cut by say, 10%-20% and increase the engineer's repair rate outside of a vehicle to compensate. This would require the vehicle and their engineers to play more strategically.

            Re: explain AT too me.

Tanks are fine as they are - you talk as if you're not allowed to jump in a tank yourself. Everybody has the option. You also have the chance of being that lucky third AT guy that manages to take out the tank.

That's the problem with this game, people will moan because they can't be on a constant killing spree. So DICE will break the game down so that every player dies twice every minute no matter what vehicle or class they play. Look at the heli - a decent vehicle that meant, if you were good enough, you might be able to actually PLAY the game without dying every 30 seconds. Now that's changed. Now this guy wants the tanks to change.

              Re: explain AT too me.

The Predator is supposed to be a fire-and-forget weapon, in reality a self-guided rocket useful against armor and aircraft from up to 600m away, so its a little absurd that while it requires 2-3 hits to kill a tank you ALSO have to hold its hand on the way in.

Its also annoying that the AT weapons in BF2 have about the propulsion of a bottle rocket. If you're firing at a tank a couple blocks away, it should seem near instantaneous. The SRAW has a speed of 250m per second.

I would rather see more powerful AT weapons (longer range, faster, harder hitting, self-guided), reduce the number of rockets being carried to one or two (give spare rockets to the assault kit?) and reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of other weapons that can damage tanks (such as hand grenades, APC and AA guns).

This would make the AT soldier's function more unique and necessary, limit their ability to spam (there's something ELSE wrong that its a better anti-personal weapon beyond 20 feet than their SMG), and even add a little more to the assault kit's usefulness.

Another effective way to kill tanks is the "suicide" jeep. simply stack your C4 on it, go fnid a tank, and hop out just before you hit it. walk back a few paces, and detonate. BOOM, tank dead, youve just made two points (or 4, if there is a gunner) and a tank is dead. your gonna say jeeps are rare? im sorry, but they are abundant on the maps and almost no one uses them.

AT is the class i play most, 39+ hours
But since 1.22 i've had the hardest time with killing them. I've seen tanks take 5 hits to be taken out with no crate around and since when does it take 4 shots in the rear to take out an APC. Not sure what EA did, But i've given up on AT for now and just stay away from armor and go assault/support mostly now. I don't think they nerfed the AT but they made taking out a tank /APC harder it seems.

                      Re: explain AT too me.

I play AT as my primary kit and I like to think I'm pretty good with it.

I have no problems with the damage of the rockets but I hear your pain about getting no points after working your ass off when someone steals it out from under you with the last hit.

The one thing I hate about AT is how you have no choice when it comes to which AT rocket you get. I prefer the unguided RPG by far over the guided variants. Any advantage you gain by guiding the rocket to its target is nullified by the fact you are standing there screaming "someone please shoot me!" the whole time. With the RPG I am already reloading and moving to my next firing position before the first rocket even lands; it makes me much harder to find for the guy in the tank and if I hit the treads he probably won't even see me before he blows.

A tip for you: don't forget to use elevation to your advantage especially if you play SF. Those guns can only aim so high and if they have nothing to hit besides sky they are not going to be able to kill you with splash damage even if they know exactly where you are. It will take more than 2 hits because you can't see the treads but it's a very effective way to singlehandedly defend a flag against armor.

                        Re: explain AT too me.

form what Ive seen it takes 2 people to take out a tank do to crates and utter weakness of rockets.
Exactly, ATs aren't meant to take out tanks on their own. It's still a tank and if one AT guy could take it out with ease that would be pretty lame.

Taking out tanks needs teamwork. You get two ATers and tanks fall easy. I play with my friends generally (3 of us usually) and if we run into a tank, two of us go anti-tank and one stays medic. Tanks fall real fast that way even if your aim sucks.

It's a game of teamwork, learn it and love it.

Yes I know the DAO is a beast, yet has no range..and I have no grenades so I have no range what so ever besides my trusty side arm *cough*
You have arguably the *best* ranged weapon in the game as AT. It's call the AT rocket. One hit close to an infantry takes them out and they can't be revived. That rocket is deadly AND you can reaim it if they start to move or if your initial shot is off. Don't underestimate the AT rocket's usefulness against infantry. It is one of the few kills an infantry can deliver that almost assures the other player cannot be revived.

I really think the AT rocket is fine. If it were any more powerful, two ATers against a tank would be a joke. Two infantry being able to take out a tank with super ease would be just downright lame.

It seems to me that you want a game where you, by yourself, can do everything. It is not that type of game. Teamwork is key and taking out tanks should be something that requires a team to do.

well, i love the at kit, i use it most of the time, and its great, and thats what anyone will say about their fave kit, but i really think 'at' and 'spec ops' are the winning kits. tanks, bah, get higher than the tank, if u can stick one rpg down the hatch, you're laughing, it will either blow the tank, or u will only need one more, other than that, its the ass end of tanks and the trax that let em down, 3 hits and they toast. i got to 391 ranking on at, so it seems to work for me, the dao is great, especially up close, no better gun, but the p90 has made it possible to snipe as well, and of course u have 30 more rounds in the clip then most others, so when u in a spray and pray situation, u r likely to still be spraying when the other dude is dead or empty. hummers/vodz well, shoot a few gun rounds in from a distance, then switch to rpg, and 1 will do the job nicely. other than that, its hit and move. gl

AT is my favorite kit by far. The only thing I would want changed is the alarm that goes off in all the vehicles when you aim at them. I know you can aim off center and guide it back to target but I thought it was wire guided. Using no scope is fine if you are close but I am usually not that close when i shoot.

How is there a sensor for a wire guided missle? And even if there is such a sensor there is no way a buggy or vodnik would have one.
If the vehicle didn't have the warning you could get one hit on them before they started looking for you. As it is now it is hard to ever surprise them with a hit.

Without the alarm, the kit would be much more balanced against vehicles which is the whole point of the kit to begin with.

A-T 162 hours, 0.90 K/D ratio, Expert Tank Badge. I know that is not a great k/d ratio, but I am fighting tanks here!:)

I love AT! You should be like a ghost...moving, hiding, popping up from unexpected places. Study the hit point guides and find what works best. Play with the DAO, so you learn how to use terrain and objects to protect you for the up close kill. Use these same terrain features to hide and terrorize the tanks and apcs.
