yes to add, push it somewhat, make sure the temps dont go to high during games and stuff. you will seea performance inscrease up to a certain point, where it can A. artifact B. slow down from heat. c. die.

I use coolbits 2.0 My 7800GS is at 509/1.50 Stock is 400/1.25 I did get a couple wierd crashes but I mostly blame this buggy game.

yeah I use coolbits, my stock was 425/1000. I got it to 470/1060, or else it gets kinda hot, because its in SLi

I have the evga 6800gs with the nv40 core and theyre known to unlock the 4 so-called useless pipes..this card comes with 12 pipes stock and most people I know were lucky SOB's and were able to unlock the 4 and get 16 pipes!! a $200 gt card!!! I wasnt able to unlock my card but I'm able to overclock this card thanks to "coolbits"! to 425 core clock and 1200 memory clock which almost doubled my 3dmark2005 score from the stock set-up.

there is a difirence between overclocking and unlocking , unlocking is unlocking pipelines on your chip, this is possible with some models because the menufacturer sells his chip as lower graded, but infact it's the same chip as a higher graded card but they locked pipelines , also sometimes it doesn't work, because also the chips who failed in production end up in rotation, but with less pipelines so they do work.

OC'ing, is dead simple, just rase the clock of your GPU and memory, and go like this , download rivatuner , go in steps of 2-3% , maybe first step 5% .

For example , your card has a GPU running on 400Mhz, first ad 5% , means card will run on 420Mhz , also the same story for the cards memory . then test it, run a 3dmark, play a game and look for artifacts (points, lines, ... apearing in screen etc.... ) , no artifacts, no errors, push up more, now only 2-3% , meaning you add about 10Mhz then at the time and every time you test it in a game , once you notice some artifacts or the system gets unstable, turn back 10-15Mhz .

not every card has a temp monitor, so be carefull, when the card hasd one check the temps please

been overclocking for years have never burned up a card yet amd 1700+ oc to 1800 6600gt oc to 550 engine 1020 memory open case with a fan blowing at it powerstrip a very good overclocker

Each card is different, just follow the steps outlined earlier in the thread and find out for yourself.

the 6800GS has noe extra pipes, ONLY 12, there are no extra 4 useless ones just the 12. the people who unlock the 4, are people with Vanilla AGP 6800's. thats it.
okay EDIT: you can unlock the 6800gs (AGP), only agp not the pci-e. BUT you need to flash it to theh BIOS that supports 1.4v to do it succesfully.

Unlocking 6800 dosent mean its as fast as 6800GT. 6800GT has also more sharder units and those cant be unlocked.

Oh, but I have unlocked the 4 vertex shaders just no success with unlocking the 4 pixel pipes. I will post a pix of this when I get home.

if you can unlock all the pipes and vertex and Overclock it to the same frequencies as the GT, then yes it will be the same, but it will run MUCH hotter.

You will find minimal increase in performance overclocking the core clock speed compared to the memory clock speed.

The biggest enemy when overclocking is heat, so if your experimenting atleast take the side of your case, because you dont want to have to but a new card do you?..

Increase in steps of 5 mHz then run a benchmark such as 3DMark or Aquamark3 so you can see the speed increase and check for artifacts.

Artifacts (any kind of graphical corruption) appear when you've clocked too far, so as soon as you see anything like this when benchmarking, stop, and knock it down 5, test again, if ok

et voila, free increase

Improving cooling usually gives higher clocks & the best info is from overclocking sites - google for them.

If you're paranoid about overclocking ruining your Nvidia card, you're uninformed. Nvidia cards automatically throttle back if they get too hot so it's next to impossible to overclock a card too high.

First let me say, Detect Optimal Frequencies sucks, so don't do it.

It's a pretty simple process to find the best clock speed as long as you're patient, and doesn't require you to be a rocket scientist. Make sure you click on to the "performance 3d" overclock tab, rather than the 2d tab (you should leave your 2d clockspeed at stock).

Start with the core speed, ramp it up in 5-10mhz intervals, test, save, apply and then play a session of BF2 or whatever at least 15-20 minutes long. If in that period you don't see any little weird flashes of color knock it up another 5-10mhz and continue. Once you do see little artifacts (blocks of green/purple color usually, at least with my card but they may be different on the newer cards) take your card down one notch to your last artifact free overlock.

Once you've established your optimal core artifact free speed clock, repeat the same exact process with the memory.

I'm running a 6600GT OCed @ 560 core 1.20 memory and the performance difference from the overlock is nothing short of amazing. Unlike hundreds of other computer tweaks that are available this one actually works and produces fantastic results with just about every graphics card. Some cards overclock better than others, but bottom line is you'll get some extra performance guaranteed, the only question is how much extra performance you can squeeze out.
