I may have figured out the redtag bug.

    just somthing to think about.

I noticed that it happens to people that have spawned at newly aquired spawn points. not every time. But when you spawn and team mates that were already there sees you and kills you then another guy that spawns and they kill him. and these are known players not noobs that don't know any better.
and when i saw new, i mean just popped up and you click on it and spawn.

think about the times that you were killed or killed someone. were they close to a spawn point? could they have gotten to the point were they were killed without opposition? was the capture point just recently aquired?

Something for Dice to look at.

I had the red tag bug on the deck of the Essex at the very start of a round last night. By the time I got into a helo, a squad member told me that I changed to green.

Yes actually... every time I can remember *was* near a spawn point, killing or being killed over red tag.
The times that I did the killing I can't be sure whether the guy just spawned, but I was killed 3x in a row on Karkand once, and another string of 3 on Shonghua. In both those instances I had just spawned, I think on a newly acquired flag, and I kept spawning at the same place.

FWIW, I was playing with two friends a week or so ago last time I saw the red tag. Myself and friend 1 started on the same team, friend 2 on the other.
#2 switched over soon as he could that round, but it wasn't until the next round when the bug hit: just after he spawned, at a new flag.
He next spawned at an "old" position, red tag was gone.

        Interesting idea...

Yea and I've seen it at the PLA airport on wake when we had the airport the whole time.

I think it has something to do with team switching, auto-balance, the server admin tool, and bad coding.

The MoonGamers' Oman server auto-switches the teams at the start of every round to keep the sides "more fair." But, I encounter the red bug and "stuck in a squad" bug more often there than any other server I've played on.

I think this is an example that creates the "stuck in a squad" bug:
              1. PlayerA joins a squad (USMC) during a round
              2. Round ends
              3. Teams switch- PlayerA is auto-switched to MEC team
              4. PlayerA's squad leader manually switches himself back to USMC
              5. PlayerA is stuck in his squad

The redtag bug is often triggered when

                A) A player purposly switches teams in the middle of a round.

                B) Autobalance switches a player teams in the middle of a round.

The red tag bug also happens FAR more often on larger servers, with frequent multi-tag bugs on 64 player servers.

because there are alot more noobs wanting to switch to be on the winning team on a 64 man server.

obviously something aint right with the auto balance system sometimes I can look at a the scores page and see 34 vs 30 for example and I ask someone else on teamspeak are the teams even and they see 32 v 32 on thier screen and vice versa

I have switched teams maybe less than 5 times since i've played BF2 and I can't even tell you the last time i saw an autoswitch. server i play on stays pretty much full 24/7

times that happened last night had been on the same team the whole time. but it was a newly aquired flag.

i don't know if this is related or not, but the other day i was a sniper, and layed claymore at a newly aquired flag. I walk around it, and it kills me... could i have had a red tag?

more likely that the server had sv.friendlyfirewithmines 1

Re: I may have figured out the redtag bug.

Recently (ever since 1.21 or 1.22) I have noticed that the red tag bug is eating me alive. It has also expanded.

I was playing on a server with 3 other buddies yesterday and one of them killed me. I noticed that his tag was green. He of course laughed and did it twice more. Nothing new.

Later on the same server I was team killed 3 times in a row. A buddy pointed out that the guy was not TK me on purpose, but that my tag was red to all of my teammates. Another buddy on the opposing team pointed out that my tag was red to him as well. Apparently I was tagged as red to everyone on the map. Needless to say I restarted BF2 as i was me against the world.

Last night I TK 2 different players. Both of them appeared in red and were listed on the other team. A buddy in my squad informed me that he not only showed them as being on our team, but in our squad.

I have encountered the red/green tag before, but nothing like the last 2 cases. What makes it worse is that this is happening to me about once every 45min-1hr in the last 5 days or so.

If anyone knows how to fix/avoid this that would be great.
