Microphone help

I just bought a Logitech headphone/mic. I've plugged it into ports where I think it was supposed to go. Usually if I put a plug in, my comp gives me a bling sound and usually asks what it is, however I didn't get it. I can't fig out what I need to do to make it work. Mute is off, I played with some sound controls

Ok nevermind about it not working, I fig it out. Missed a step on how to get them to work. NEW problem!

I can't hear it. I used SoundRecorder and I can barely hear myself when I YELL into the mic. Is there a volume control somewhere?

Try this -
1) Open Control Panel
2) Double click "Sound & Audio Devices"
3) Select the "Audio" tab
4) Click "Volume" in the "Sound Recording" section
5) Tick the "Select" box under Microphone & turn the volume UP
6) Click the "Advanced" button next to microphone
7) Tick the box that says "Mic Boost"

I'm assuming you have Windows XP, but its similar in other Windows. Hope this helps

Thanks man, that solved my problem! Now to go n00b hunting, lol. Now I can yell at me teammates where people are without stopping and typing, lol

Do I have to hold "B" or press it 1ce to turn it on and again to turn it off?

You need to hold it down.
Edit: Your best bet is to re-map the push to talk key to something more useful. Try scroll wheel down if you've got a standard wheel mouse, or one of the side buttons if you've got a 5 button (which I highly recomend owning if you don't).

And before you go running off to be mystified by the next problem that's likely to come up, I'll give ya a warning...

LOTS of servers list themselves as having VOIP enabled, but don't actually have it setup right. This confused the be-jeezes outta me in the early days.

So test your mic in the autio options tab (ingame) to make sure it's working and you're getting good clean sound back. If it's working there it's 90% sure to be working with the game. Thus, if it doesn't seem to be working when you're playing, it's likely the server. Find another one.

I've wanted to use VOIP for a long time but can't figure it out. For starters I have a mic that's about 4 years old, and uses the old school plug in system of one for the phones, and one for the mic, like you would find for your IPOD nano with the awesome N'Sync faceplate and bejeweled pink plastic cover.

Do I ABSOLUTELY have to go out and buy a USB headset?

Actually... I've heard more complaints about USB mics being problematic in BF2 than not. What you've got is what I'd recomend... providing it still works, of cource.

And N'Sync? Are you fruggin serious? Anyone who owns an iPod like you desicribe and ISN'T a 13 year old girl needs to be removed from the gene pool. Forcably!

Yeah, mics with jack plugs are better IMHO than USB. Soundcards are generally more specialised than a general USB socket, so the sound card circuitry is better suited to a mic than a USB device. Just my $0.02

The README file that comes with the game mentions known problems with USB speakers (I assume headphones suffer the same issues) such when you unplug/replug them during the game.

In short I find the mini-plug version of headphones and microphones to be best.

Yeah, go with a headset that has the stereo mini plugs on it...USB is for the birds...

The problem I've experinced with USB plugs and BF2 is that it has to be plugged in before you start BF2. Otherwise, it won't work.

If you disconnect it accidentally ingame or didn't plug it in before you started, you'll have to quit BF2, all the way down to desktop. Then, plug in the USB plug and restart BF2.

I don't get what you're talking about in the 1st paragraph about the mouse. Mine has the scroll wheel. I fig out it has to be a VoIP server, has the earphone icon

I've got it down. Messed with the game's "Voice" controls. The only thing I don't like is I can't hear myself... I know I'm talking... but you know. I had the Transmit up to 100% and was wondering my it sounded fuzzy when I did the mic test so I turned that down to 50 or 60% and it's fine now. Helps out! "Watch the C4!" *BOOM* hehe oops. Reallyhandy then typing. DPitty is going to get one, since I used that $20 off BF2 at Best Buy coupon(kuu-pin!) and got myself the game. Now I can play with him

RimReaper: I got a LogiTech headset/mic and it's just fine... $20. And I have colour changable earpieces, woot!

I tried one of the Logitech Premium Stereo headsets but found them immensely uncomfortable after a short time and the Mic was too short.

I got a set of these and they are excellent so far, and very comfortable. You can also hook them up to a DVD player, or any of the three popular games consoles.

I have a question regarding the push to talk.

I have been playing this game for over 100hrs and have never heard my squadmates or squad leader talk to me. A friend was at my house this weekend playing and mentioned it. I was in his squad and could not hear what anyone was saying. I didn't even know this was a feature.

I checked the settings and confirmed that it was enabled. I played with my usb headset for a while and then went to the dual audio plug headset. Neither headset picked up any sound other than the standard in game effects and music.

I called up 2 other buddies that play regularly and they have never heard of this either. What are we doing wrong? I can hear all of the game sounds in both headsets. I checked all of my BF2 settings with the buddy that had his working. This feature makes the game a lot easier and a lot more fun. We have been shooting at each others feet to get their attention. Talk about being in the dark on something.
