i use stats to measure my own progress/growth in the game, i dont care how i rank among others, only that i improve, and have a guage to determine my improvement.

I agree. I am like 200,000th and above on nearly everything...but I honestly don't care...I just like the game itself and the intensity of each infantry battle :) heck, I am no plane / helicopter user (rarely anyway) - so my rank is always going to be a long way down on nearly everything. I am often more worried about the team stats than the combat stats anyway.

tonight i was playing with my buddies. Using Team Speak and we were on a squad called team work. we went to the other teams base. man we were blowing people out with c4. thanks to us they didnt have UAV, Scan and artillery. the commander was real mad that he had to come to get us. is pretty cool when you have 6 people working together as a team. this is what i think that EA had in mind when they were doing this game. the whole unlock thing is an excuse to keep us playing and give us some kind of reward after all those long hours that we spend playing.

You'll never find a multiplayer game out there where people don't care about their stats. It's just something you'll have to live with or get rid of your game.

It gives you something to care about, it kinda validates the repetitive play of some levels and gives you a goal to work for. I like the stats and points system. When I find myself bored and sitting around not playing anything, I think... HEY! I wanna try and get my pistol badge or my next rank so I can get the next unlock. This is why the point system is important to me. IMO.
