    Mine Clearing 101

Since quite a few servers are running with mine FF off these days and lots of folks seem to be a bit grumpy about the situation, I thought it might be handy to present a few tips on clearing mines.

    So here goes;

First, the obvious. Engies can wrench both AT mines and clays. Yeah, everyone knows this, right? Well... it seem that some folks don't so what the hell. When it comes to wrenching a claymore, just remember that it's got a 60 trigger arc. This means that you don't only have to aprouch it from the back, you can come in from the sides too.

Artillery still clears mines. If you've got a good commander and your basicly screwed 'cause you can't get to a flag due to mine placement, try calling in some arty. Commanders should be aware of this in general. Using arty to clear mines is a win win situation. You decrease the odds of that little packet of nasty causing you to lose a ticket AND you help your team to score more points. Thus, increasing your potential score (as opposed to shelling enemy players which actually reduces your potential score).

Take one for the team. If you spot a clay and you've got a medic on your squad, let him know you are going to "clear" the clay and jump on it. Make sure the rest of your mates are outside the blast radius and just do it. A quick revive and you haven't lost anything.

Use armour to clear clays. Claymores don't hurt armour very much. If you've got an APC or tank at a flag that's wired, try to set the clays off. It ain't gonna hurt you much and you'll potentially save a teammate's life.

AT mines still kill moving neutral vehicles. If your armoured collum is blocked off by a row of mines, try finding a buggy, hummer, or vodnik. Drive it at the mines and hop out. Make sure you give yourself enough room to avoid being taken out by the resulting blast, but close enough so the vehicle will still roll over them mines.

Duping. This is a nasty little trick I like pulling. When I find a row of AT mines and I'm an engie, rather than wrenching 'em up, I'll carfully place my own mine ontop of theirs. This way, the enemy sees the red skull and thinks it's safe to drive over those mines... only to pull a big WTF as mine goes off and blows 'em sky high. Since fratracide still works (mines blow eachother up), you'll also remove the rest of the mines in the local area.

AT mined neutral vehicles. When you find an empty vehicle that has an enemy mine on it, try nuding it to set the mine off. Hit it with a nade or something that will rock it. It's not certain, but sometimes you can get the vehicle to move enough to trigger the mine. Then you need to wait for it to respawn... but hey, it's better than just leaving it as a potential ticket eater.

    That's that for my thinks.
    Any of yous gots some?

Except your own teammates will drive over it too.

        HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

Its a good idea though I give you that, Gimp.

The most foolproof method in clearing a minefield is letting a teammate blow it up himself. Theres no deficit of that kind of cannon fodder in BF2.

Actually putting C4 over enemy mines is better. That way it won't blow up over friendlies but will over enemies.

Yup... this is a danger, alright.

Generally, I try to do this only when I know that the enemy is more likely to drive over said mines before a friendly is going to come along. I've even gone so far as to hang out on the road on the friendly side so I can jump up and down like a spaz infront of any incoming friendly vehicles to wave 'em off.

If you're really sneaky, you can attempt to annoy enemy vehicles on the other side of the mines and get 'em to chase you over your duped set.

I've had the most success with this dirty little trick at the docks while playing on the Chiniese side of Dragon Valley (64).

Ah... no. That's actually the worst thing you could do. The C4 won't auto-blow when an enemy vehicle goes over it, if you manually touch it off, it won't remove the enemy mine, and just because you dumped C4 on a mine won't stop if from blowing up friendlies.

Hmmm..... I thought C4 blows when something hits it? I've stuck C4 to the front of a hummer and had some teammate jump into it and drive off. Then an enemy tank hits the front of the hummer with a shell and I got a teamkill.

Meh I forgot C4 makes that skull thingy too...

                Nope.
C4 only blows when you blow it.
Point of fact, C4 is actually very handy if you're out in the bush and need to start a fire, but don't have any dry tinder. It burns very nicely, but doesn't go bang unless you hit it with an electical charge or primer blast.

The same is NOT true for TnT. Don't try that. Messy.

but then why do I get a teamkill when an enemy tank shell hits a friendly hummer that has one of my C4s on it? I didn't click the detonator.

Probably works the same way as the Jihad-Jeeps do.

I've seen instances where a C4 packet on an jeep will cause you to get teamkills when the jeep blows without the C4 being the actual cause. Ie, it seems to credit the C4 as being the last thing to hit the jeep, so if the guy drives into a river or off a cliff, when the jeep blows up it blames you for it.

I'm reasonably sure that an exploding vehicle doesn't blow up C4 attached to it. I could be wrong tho.

An Exploding vehicle cause's all C4 stuck to it to explode, thats why jihaders use C4 Jeeps. That way they get the kills alot easier.

                          I think I stand corrected.

Seems to me I recall trying to pull that stunt and it didn't work.
                          *shrug*
It ain't exactly my play style, tho.

Didn't know arty cleared it....thanks for the tip.

I prefer just waiting till a more than willing team mate sacrifices himself for me. Unethical but it works much better.... :p

I didn't either, until last night.

A near miss from an arty shell touched off one of my own mines and caused me an unexpected suicide.

Thus the insperation for making the thread. I figured I'd pad the info out with the other ways one can clear mines 'n stuffs.
