Perhaps he figured that he could do more damage to the US by hiding them than by using them. Think about it. By using them, it would have justified the US invasion, and made Saddam look like a murderer of his own people in front of the international community. By NOT using them and hiding them instead, Saddam has made fools out of the US, and the war is extremely unpopular almost everywhere in the world. Anti-US seminents have grown even stronger since the war began. Now the US is pinned down by an insurgency in Iraq. I argue that this is more damaging than using the weapons.

Tis a valid point... but does it fit with his character?
Saddam is first and formost as seriously greedy SOB. He doesn't have lofty ideas... or even preverted ones (as is the case with Osma... who actually put a death mark on Saddam, BTW). He's for him. Every action he took was about raising himself up, imposing his will on others, and making himself rich/godlike.

He's never shown the slightest interest in toppling the American Empire. If fact, he was on their payrole for a consiterable length of time. He's also never been exceptionally good at political manuvering. He's an iron fist, not a velvet glove.

He had to know that he was going to be pintched in the occupation. Even when he was hiding, there were NO report of ANY kind of chemical or biological attack.

So why would he suddenly do an about face and not employ every weapon in is arsenal in a bid to save his own arse?

Apply Occam's Razor: Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem. (modern translation: The most simple answer is usually the right one)

He didn't have them.

This is simply disregaurding both sides of the conpiracy theory debate and looking at the facts. Not something many people like to do these days.

And possibly living in a Utopia rather than under the thumb of a proven corrupt administration that freely violates national sovrenty and human rights as well as the world's wishes.
