But like I said, very good video. 26 US helo's have been dropped by the heroic actions of those fighting back in Iraq since the invasion in 2003, and there is a very good chance that the rocket in the vid was one of those attacks.

The pilots in the apache really had no chance, which might be considered fair because they don't give their targets much chance either. Classic situation of rock paper scissors warfare.

They had maybe a total of 4 seconds to react. I read the specs the missile has a top speed of MACH 2 (roughly 700 m/s) which makes me estimate the apache was about 2200 meters away which is over a mile. A circular mile is a LOT of area to keep track of at all times. The seeker is totally passive and lateral surface area is quite small so the detection would be a very small blip on a radar or a flash in the FLIR. To make matters worse, the pilots were hovering which basically made them sitting ducks.

If everyone had one of these launchers, helicopters would not last very long on the battlefield period. Helicopters are negative in terms of cost-effectiveness. $80,000 for a IGLA with launcher VS $20,000,000 for an apache. If you think about, helis are just good for stomping/mopping up unorganized militias armed only with dumb munitions.
