I'm an ATI fanboy myself. I loathe Nvidia... Yet even I'm able to realise they are tit-for-tat. It's all a matter of which company you want to support.

Hell. To think that Nvidia and ATI are at each other's throats would be childish. Much like every other market; when two dominate forces realise they are the only thing standing in each others way. The coexist and milk the public for all it's worth.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if their CEO's and Board golfed, grew up, or just hang together. Probably share technology and ideas (Of course we wouldn't ever find out about this. Wars produce money in the corporate world).

...one thing I do propose though is knowing how the different cards stack up. For instance, an X1800XT is comparable to a 7800GTX 256, yet not the 512. Which the x1900xtx outperforms, yet is on par with the 7900-Whatever (I don't know the tag on it).

Just pick a company and stick with it until they give you a reason to do otherwise. Although, I would "SERIOUSLY" not suggest buying a workstation GPU for gaming. That's like buying an Excursion for a Fuel Economy.

Boo Hiss to you all. The Quadro NVS 120M I have runs awesome. It's the same card as a 7400. Though I didn't have a say in what I got because it's a work supplied laptop, but it runs great. :)

What matters the most is the Core GPU and the Memory Hertz.

Yeah, but that's only part of it. There's also stuff like pixelpipelines, vertex shaders, memory type, memory width, etc.

The absolute BEST way to compare graphics cards is by their model. But you have to know how to do this properly, like that a Geforce 6800 beats out a 7300, a Geforce FX 5950 beats out a Geforce 6200.

Also, the Quadro series is generally bad for gaming because they are optimized for buisness applications. Gaming performance of a Quadro is slightly reduced over the counterpart Geforce series.

A Quadro version of the 7950GX2 can cost over to $2000. Quadro is MUCH more expensive!

Am i the only one noticing this guy has a crap 1.66 Ghz CPU? dude! get a complete new PC, cuz if ur gonna upgarde all those things u better just get a whole new one.

I think it is a core dou processor thats why it has 1.66Ghz (NOT CORE2DOU).

both nvidia and ati have good cards, nvidia has learned their lesson, anyway just try not to get anything with "turbocache" on its name, as simple as that.

turbocache cards are cheap and use the computer RAM for a reason, and that reason is "workstation".

1.66 GHz would be crap if it was a Pentium 4 but it isn't. As I said earlier, this is a notebook so it is almost certainly a CoreDuo which should perform like a Pentium M in BF2; i.e. probably like a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4. Not great but not 'crap' either.

i love quadros!!! always buy quadros for WORK-stations not gaming-stations.....even ran one for a while in my gaming rig in between graphics cards, it was medium city though for bf2 with lag rearing its head constantly.

nice thoroughbred cards for their target market though.

Do you have any tweaks to explain how you got this to work? I have a D 820 with similar, although not identical specs, and I can't prevent CTD from the very beginning of loadup

Are you using Dell's video drivers or nVidia's? How much RAM do you have?

I've got 1 GB of RAM but an upgrade to 2GB arriving tomorrow. 2GHz core duo processor and the 512 MB Nvidia Quadro card with the NVIDIA 7400 chip. I downloaded the latest graphics drivers from the dell site - am I to assume that this was a bad idea?

Many thanks for any help - I've done pretty much all other tweaks - changed refresh rate (which actually worked on Battlefield Vietnam which wasn't working either), used the video con file tweak which also didn't work and the resolution is set at the 800X600@60Hz. And, of course, EA tech support basically said that they couldn't help. Interestingly, BF2 is the only game I own for which this is a problem.

WTF you are an idiot why do people ask how high they can run settings with new hardware, go and click on the BF2 icon and play the game to find out, stop showing saying you got £1000000 graphics card

My apologies for requesting assistance on this board - the technical problems are genuine enough, the BF2 and NVIDA testing sites claim that I have more than enough to meet their requirements but I still have the CTD problem.

Perhaps in future responses could be made in a courteous fashion, I didn't log on with the intention of insulting anyone nor do I appreciate the needless and childish diatribes. I'm attempting to alleviate a problem not engage in a debate about whose barbaric yawp is the biggest.
