the nvidia quadro series are workstation cards and are NOT ment for gaming. do not buy them for gaming

Exactly, while you could try it. It'd probably be a waste. I wouldn't advise it at all. Get a 6600 or 6800. Or could spend a bit more for a 7800. Much much better.

For those that don't know, this is a mobile chip. I wouldn't expect more than medium settings; it certainly won't be as good as a mobile 7800. And you should get more than 1GB of RAM since the video card uses system RAM for anything more than 128 MB (that's what TurboCache is). I'm looking at getting the new Latitude D820 with that GPU but the 2 GHz CPU and 2 GB RAM. I want something decent for games but smaller than the 17" screen monsters (otherwise I'd get a Sager with an Athlon 64 and nVidia 7800).

The megabytes that a gfx card has do not mean ANYTHING. What matters the most is the Core GPU and the Memory Hertz. A 6600 vanilla that has 256 meg and 300 and 500 setting for the Cpu is much worse than a 6600gt that has 128 meg but 500 and 1000.

The megabytes that a gfx card has do not mean ANYTHING.

So why aren't we all using 8 MB video cards (minimum for 1600x1200 x 32-bit color framebuffer)? Video memory does mean something, just not as much as the chip speed and architecture. All else being equal, more memory on the card will perform better in 3D games (up to a point at least). And your post isn't very relevant to the original post or mine since it doesn't matter how performance is affected by video memory; the fact is that these chips will use system memory which will then not be available for other purposes. Therefore you should want more system memory than you would with a chip using purely dedicated video memory.

Those are not for gaming, get an ATI X800pro or higher .... avoid nVidiot cards.

Not really, but kind of. It depends on the memory interface. If you have a 256MB card with only 128bit memory interface then yes it is pointless, but if you have a 256 bit memory interface then the 256MB will be better.

Such as the 6600 with 256MB ram is pointless.

avoid nVidiot cards.

It's true that chip is not recommended for gaming but I've found that nVidia usually out-performs ATI on the games I want to play and I also have had fewer problems with them than ATI. You don't need to hack nVidia official drivers to get them to work on a laptop for instance. Until recently ATI did not support mobile chips at all directly, only through the laptop manufacturer. They still only support limited chips and systems and only on XP.

No nVidia outperformed ATI in the games that I play and BF2 is one of them.

I don't see why peoble will insult ATIs card or Nvidia cards. Yeah company make perfectly fine cars that are more than capable of playing any games out there, it's really just personal prefrence. Either way you go you can't really lose...

I prefer Nvidia, but Ati makes perfectly fine cards.

I have a reason, I had nothing but issues with nVidia cards, since 4600 TI or whatever, once I went to X850XT and up I have nothing but excellent performance.

Well trust me, there are many more people that have Nvidia cards with no issues.
