    C*H*E*A*T*S ...get to know them.

I am truly amazed at the ignorance of the public BF2 player when it comes to spotting and acting on a cheater, so heres a little help just incause you dont want to be one of those clueless pub's. Heres a list of the working hacks, im not giving their real name or whos made them just incase somebody would use the info to search and cheat themself.

FULL HUD HACK - The worst hack of all ..imagine having UAV on 100% of the time covering the entire map. Aside from seeing anything and everything on your minimap, the user will see notations of "player name", "distance", "weapon", "health", and "direction facing" directly on their playing screen. This looks similar to what legit players see for their teamates.

How to spot: Sadly there is really no direct tell, but watching somebody and knowing what this hack does you can put yourself into the mindset and figure out when they run a totally randomy pattern and end up behind a target for an easy kill ..over and over and over again ..then they are most likly using this cheat. MANY MANY MANY pilots use this as its very easy to drop out of the sky directly on somebody regardless of if the legit radar is in use.

AIMBOT - Not color, not vector, but pack related mouseover true-aim. Useless and deadly at the same time. All us pros know that you dont just aim directly at something espically if your target is on the move. Even so a directed aimbot ensures that most of the guns in the game provide an instant on kill espically those with large area-of-effect such as the auto cannons and lav/tank shells.

How to spot: Usually somebody with an aimbot will have a shaking screen, go into spec and watch for it.

De-Sync - This hack is not very public, yet, but you will know it when you see it. Most of the time you will chalk it up to lag but after a while of looking at your ping and the suspected cheat ..you will figure it out. What De-Sync does is moves the player in real time but delays their responce to the movement command to the game server, and thus ..you. They will be seen as skipping over the field of view and almost impossible to hit with bullets. This hack does not work in vehicals or aircraft only while on foot.

How to spot: Look for somebody continuously bouncing around. Dont assume on the first time as it may well be lag.

Now usually these hacks are 3rd party and independant of each other but there is one VERY popular client hook, aka multihack, that has the FULL HUD HACK and AIMBOT as well as a few other annoying non-cheats that provide a slight edge to the user.

You might thing "punkbuster stops cheats, youre lying". Well wake up from that dream. Punkbuster does not stop ANYTHING. Just look back a few years ago when PB 'protected' Counter-Strike. Did it stop anything then? HELL NO ..infact Sierra/Valve dropped their contract after it was clear they had no clue what to do about the cheating problem. PB is the same, the same people, the same programmers, the same ignorance. PB scans only the game files that exist on the hard drive *NOT AS THEY ARE LOADED* Ok? thats the key problem.

Most of you will probably say "this kid just sucks and hes crying". Well im a nerd, i own and play every first person shooter there is, as well as every other game i can get my hands onto. My job is in the gaming field, i game for a living. Ive sat on review boards for the most popular cheating oraganizations on the net (myg0t, japs, MPC) and i know how to instantly spot and ID any cheat or cheater.

    Hope this serves to educate.

Thanks for the info, usually i would just disconnect from the server. Keep a mental note and never go on that server again. It's just too hard to get solid, account-banning proof that someone is cheating. So i just disconnect, leave the game for a while and do something else. (This applys for basically any game)

Ya youre totally right, getting the needed ammout of people to vote a cheat is an impossible task, and hardly any servers have admins. I hang in a few select clean clan servers, good people, they know what to look for, but sadly the servers arent always full. So that keeps me in pubs most of the time.

If the games didnt take 5mins to get into id leave instantly at the first sign of a cheat.

This is why i recommend that servers use modded PB server files by RespectedAdmins. The did a great job for the Rainbow Six: Ravenshield Teamwarfare Community. If you look here there are PunkBuster configs that they have frequently updates. The catch alot of cheaters.

Watch out for players Thund3rb0lt and nazif ingame. They are both known cheaters if you check their Punkbusted bans. They both still use cheats while playing so heads up.

Here is Thund3rb0lt's Punkbusted GUID Link: http://www.punksbusted.com/cgi-bin/m...t&query=Search

Ahh, good information. Somebody needs to create a global blacklist that servers can tap into to keep the bans on cheaters spread acoss the community.

Some guy posted: "I hack" tonight - lasted 10 seconds via kick vote, impressive :)

You should add a disclaimer in there that people should not resort to cheating accusations as soon as they "suspect" something. Often times, I will play on a map that I know very, very well and simply anticipate troops movements. For instance, I would know that a player -normally- picks on route rather than the other when given a choice. Or, I could just have a very consistent UAV (it reloads very fast).

It would also be a good idea if you mention that it is impossible to add/change characteristics of anything in game. For instance, you cannot make a bolt action sniper rifle fire like semi-auto.

The only thing that you can change is the way in which the data sent to you is processed. (ie: when the servers sends you the position of the other team (which it absolutely must do for hit detection obviously), instead of hiding that information you simply tell the game to display it).

Maybe you've seen the "De-Sync" thing on some cheat based forums, but I find it very hard to believe that you can bottleneck your packets in such a way that it would lag you to the server. Since the server picks up and stores all response times/calls it would be laughable that a protection for this was not created. But... I don't know the truth, so I'm only speculating about that.

The real problem with Punkbuster is that it works much like an Anti-Virus works. For instance, both of us could get together and write a hack and tell no one about it (not a soul). PB would be unable to do anything because it doesn't know about the hack. The only reason PB seems effective is because it can eliminate the popular hacks that they themselves can download and try. Let's oversimplify this and say that a hack was written that sends a command to BF2 or calls a function/method that says:

"Show me all players on the map."

Maybe it's not an actual routine in the program, but imagine that line of text as a program that does something. Punkbuster will pick up anyone who runs:

"Show me all players on the map."

And ban them. But what if you have a hack that says:

"Do not, not display the players of the game in a map."

PB would never detect such a program, set of calls, or any such thing because they do not know what to look for. The common exceptions are programs that generally do the same thing or use the same method of doing something -- so PB can pretty much block any hack using that method.

The point is, someone who wants to can write a hack that only he will use -- thus PB will never detect said hack and no one can prove that person is hacking.

Moral of the story, as far as we're concerned, anyone could be hacking and no one could be hacking. People need to take it all in stride and give good players the credit they deserve without using an imaginary respresentation of what they think hacking is and how it works (like posting that ridiculous L96A1 'hacking' video that obviously done in SP).

Did anyone else see the video posted(Not the God one) on 3-21-06 on the infamous pay hack site that I wont mention? They talk up thier hack as 100% PB proof, yet the linked demo is in single player. LOL. If you haven't seen that one...please check it out. Im pretty sure its single due to the names I could make out and the map size on Oman.

i have been accused of hacking enough times, but i have to say, through the better knife and sraw kills I would assume myself of hacking.

however, yesterday i was in this 24/7 mashtuur server..... and everyone kept talking about however many miles you were from the enemy, grenades would nearly kill you or kill you. strange explosions everywhere....

also, pkm whores parachuted from the sky straight onto our main base.... for 5 minutes, i shot the same one 5 times in a row and he was back each time in 10 seconds...

is there perhaps a spawn time hack? i was in a server, and was playing against the worst helicopter pilot i have ever seen, i shot him down 11 times in a row, but he was literally back within 4 seconds. i watched the aircraft carrier and him get into it every 5 seconds after i shot him down.his name was n1.YahooWarGod. stupid clan weirdos.

I think having a public blacklist of people that actually have been caught cheating through PunkBuster should be publicly displayed.

This isn't always a hack, a lot of this is down to lag, so if you go into spectator, don't instantly assume that any tank plane or whatever is a hacker just because it's shaking!
