The suggestion about taking the side panel off your case and blowing a house fan onto the CPU is a good one, it will help you eliminate CPU overheating as a possible cause, there is also a program called Speedfan
Which you can launch before you launch BF2 and then Alt-Tab out to see what your CPU temp is (assuming your Mobo is compatible with Speedfan) to see if you have an overheating problem.
Another very useful utility is Memtest86:
which you can write to a floppy which you then set to boot from and run it for a couple of hours, you will then know whether or not you have faulty RAM, which removes one more variable from the equation.
