    Re: BF2 Dead?

Yeah maybe you should take a break for a while. I was the same, didn't play for about 3 months, came back, sucked pretty bad, then started different tactics (mainly more teamwork) and its like a whole new game, my stats are waaaay better now.

Although, like others have said, more maps and gameplay styles wouldn't hurt breathing new life into BF2. But I guess EA/DICE have made their money now so probably have no reason to do this except for non-altruistic reasons like instilling customer confidence and sharing the love.

So take a break, play something else, then when you're ready, come back and starting 0wning n00bs again :P

Too bad...it was fun until everyone whined and changed the game ...then whined about that and changed the game again....then whined some more to change it to this....then whined again and changed it to that.....lol
I'm using some of your words in my sig quoting it anyway. Do you mind?

        Re: BF2 Dead?

Some may disagree, but i think they should scrape the whole ranking thing. It totally ruined the game which is mean't to be a team thing. Still keep the badges, stats and everything but stop the progressive points thing. I mean the average player isn't gonna get past gunnery sgt, first sgt at the very most. Some of the liets and majors you need **** loads of points and unless your totally dedicated and love the game you won't stick it.

The game is ruined because in most rounds i've played it's everyman for himself. Ok you do occasionally find a kickass squad who actually get given orders. but most of the time players are just wanting points and go their separate ways even though they are in squads. They just use the squad to spwn back to where the action is that's all. It just sucks after a while. The players who actually want to be part of squads are just noobs who can't hit a target 3 feet away.

At the most organise small tournaments where you can accumulate points. For example each tournament lasts 1 month.....then when the round ends all points are wiped and score are reset. Scores are enhanced by being in teams and succesfully following orders etc etc. IMO having a beggining and an ending is good....eventually EA will turn off the ranking server/ranked servers anyway. Maybes give awards to successful clans/squads...ie a portal web page page describing who they are and their strategies on achieving their goals.

Making it more of a team playing game would kick the cheaters too. The cheaters have nothing to cheat for. It would be more fun if EA drastically changed BF2. I doubt EA would change it. They have made sh;tloads of money so far and I think it would be too hard for EA to do considering how the patching has gone so far.

BF2 at present is a complete waste of time and i doubt I will be playing it again. All the enjoyment has gone. If EA change it i may come back, but i doubt they will.

This is counter to my own experience. I've found teamwork in squads constantly. This isn't a fluke, tho. I find it because I make it happen.

Seriously, I don't see how you can really complain about this when you've got more hours as a lonewolf than anything else. Infact, your lonewolf time is just under everything else combined.

Before you blame the game or other players, you might wanna look at what you are doing.

I'm still noe getting tired of BF2 but i have slowed down my playing. I do still play a pretty good amount of time and i have kept up with BF2 longer than i have with most other games, usually with a game i play it for a while then stop pretty much completely then re-discover it at a later date. BF2 seems like one of the only constants I have ever had.

Dying a slow death? I'm somewhat worried that it's going to because of the ranking system. Pretty much every game that's lasted has done so because of a flourishing modding/mapping community, but the ranking system combined with a complete lack of auto-download has kind of screwed that up.

"Why play custom maps? I need more unlocks!"

                      Re: BF2 Dead?

                      Personally I think it's dying .

One problem I've personally found with it is I've racked up my 20 000 points for whatever rank I am now, but to get the mext promotion I need to score more points than I have in my entire BF2 history?

That sounds a little messed up.

I have also noted fewer names I don't recognise and more ofthe ame names around the same servers. While this is quite obvious, there are fewer noobies around. THe "I'll get it for fun" guys have gone and it's all the "hard core" players left.

And they are generally the ones who know how to camp :)

                          Re: BF2 Dead?

                          not even close.

the battlefield player community is better off without the type of people who leave it.

just as were better off without the hundreds of sniper claymore whores who undoubtedly stopped playing after finding that claymores are now balanced properly in 1.22. same goes for the whiners.

when bfpirates comes out, ill play that, as well as FH2 and battlefield40k.

POE i could care less about, if it has great maps and balance i might try it out, but frankly its just like a homemade version of BF2, with an even more idiotic plot.

for me, it will be just like BF1942, except instead of desert combat ill be playing forgotten hope 2.

other than that, bfpirates, a star wars mod (whichever is best) and battlefield40k will be my mods of choice.

really though, im just starting to explore some of the vehicles and maps 170 hours in.

for example, in the dark days of claymore whoring i went to operation smokescreen, the best vehicle map in the game, and learned to fly jets well, incredibly fun and basically an entirely new and just as entertaining game.

same as gunning on dragon valley in helicopters. nailing guys with tv guided missiles is definitely more fun than the random death of karkand these days.

also, mashtuur and sharqi are DEFINITELY better than karkand, mashtuur particularly being better in every way, especially being focused on light vehicles, not armor whoring.

the ABR system seems very promising for these mods. imagine being able to be a colonel (or maybe admiral in bfpirates) without spending your life playing karkand as a tank/ medic/ pkm point whore!

basically, ill be playing BF2 mods and the main game until the next one comes out, which i probably wont buy. thats really going too far ahead to predict.

for me bf1942 had 4 main games, all of which were and are more fun than anything else on PC by far:

                          bf1942 main game
                          desert combat
                          bfpirates
galactic conquest (incredibly good star wars mod)

                          for BF2 it will be

                          BF2 main game
                          forgotten hope 2
                          bfpirates
new star wars mod (whichever is best)

as you can see, the game types are the same.... modern combat, WWII, pirates and star wars.

i just want the new graphics engine, squad support, destructible buildings and the like.

except a "Battlefield: Middle-Earth" would be sweet! imagine getting gondorian soldier armor as you climb ranks, using the ABR system, so it doesnt take 1000 hours to do it!

and having orcs spawn faster, have twice as many tickets, run jump etc, while higher ranked players are armored gondorians defending a wall or something, unable to jump, few tickets, but better armed, armored and more experienced.

pretty neat having a whole bunch of fast spawning noobs against a few experienced players with better equipment.

                            Re: BF2 Dead?

no the game is not dead, or dying. There are an absolute crap load of servers maxed at 64 players every night. I think some people get off on acting "over it".

Like the guy said earlier, we dont care. Play or dont, makes no difference. The game is not losing popularity IMO, just gaining more people with nothing else to alk about.

About once a month for the next year, we are gonna see threads like this. My advice is simple, You get out of the game what you put in the game. Ok.
I can see how its boreing if you play that one map on that one server all the time. I surf my server list, and try to get on the server with the lowest ping running 64 player maps. Sometimes there are 20 players and sometimes the full 64. I dont care, Its a big challenge. I rarely play the same server two days in a row. Unless Im trying to get revenge on someone . Even then I just wanna get in the last kill. Kinda like getting in the last word. Anyway, I believe that your boredom is your fault.
The short version is like that one lady host on that game show said "And you are the weakest link, Goodby"! . . . . . .Red
