Civilization 4 is fun. (but time consuming)
So is Eve. http://www.eve-online.com
If Spore were out, I'd name it, but put Spore on your list of things to wait on. :)

You definitly need to get Rome Total War and the expansion Barbarian Invasion. One if not the best game(s) I have.

There is a really old game called gangsters by EA I think, which is kinda good. The game is full of bugs, but you can get it for a fiver so it's worth it.

I currently play:

Call of Duty 2 (Feels less mod-like and more polished than BF2)
Age of Empires 3
Trackmania Nations (Freebie)
Civ 4
Act of War

I took a 3 month break from BF around between December to Febuary to play AOEIII & COD after BF2 frustated the hell out of me BF2 with all of its gameplay issues. I started playing again after the gamplay issues were addressed in 1.2.

SWAT4, "best law enforcement tactical experience out there". If you love FPS games and something different than BF2, with a good online mode and great gamemodes (zero support from developers though, and lotsa bugs), SWAT4 is your game.

I just watched my brother finish Oblivion... hmm... its a nice game, nothing speshul.

have you people never play SPLINTER CELL?? this game rocks on single player and online is tied or better than BF2 imo!!

Counter-Strike: Source. Can't go wrong with the classic.

Quake 4 isn't that great, but HL2 and CS:S are good choices
