What is the point of the Spec-Ops unlocks?

I was looking at the newest weapon chart to see what unlocks I should get on my next promotion. I only have a few left but I have not unlocked any of the spec-ops guns. Now, looking at the chart (click here) I am glad that I haven't because there is no benefit.

Why does BF2 'reward' players weapon down grades when they have reached the next skill level? It is really stupid and pointless. I don't want them to be much stronger than the default guns because that would unbalance the game and frustrate new players. I just want them to be a little better, maybe like 2 more points damage or a faster rate of fire or slightly better accuracy. Anything! Just don't say, "Hey. You played this game alot and to show you our appreciation you can have this piece of crap that is the same or slightly worse than what you have now."

You will find the Scar-L to be a fearsome weapon in battle.

If you are not sure, try using the SCAR H as a SEAL in Iron Gator on Special Forces first before making up your mind.

As a spec ops, I do not know what you are talking about. The spec ops unlock weapon is far superior then the one you start with. I kick butt with it, I believe it is faster and stronger, but what do I know, I only have over 100 hours as a spec op.

If they made the weapons that much stronger then people who didn't have any unlocks wouldn't stand a chance. The G36C is more accurate than all of the other spec-ops guns and I don't even bother using anything else when I play that class.

The G36C is less accurate than the QBZ and less powerful than the AKS-74u. I forget how it compares to the M4. The nice thing is it has practically no recoil, unlike the M4 which sends your screen everywhere once you start firing.

The SCAR-L sucks though. The ONLY reason to take it over the G36C is the reduced noise and dot scope. It really is a piece of crap.

Once you get used to it, the iron sites on the G36c then you will realize how superior it is to the rest.

Now the ONLY draw-back i can think of is the draw animation(the unfolding of the stock)...it takes FOR EVER to bring it out...so if you are caught with your deto. out...you're most likely screwed.

But even with that, the G36c is FAR superior than both of the other weapons(IMHO).

But it's really a matter of preference, some people like to go for that aesthetic value as well as the tech. specs.

            my 2 tickets.

heh aesthetics indeed. I love the QBZ reload animation: "WTF where do I put this in again?"

Thats what I thought. I rarely loose a shoot out to a spec-ops player that is not using a Scar-L so I figured that it was better than most. Then I look at the chart and, compared to a M4, it is 2 damage points high and slightly faster to reload, but at the cost of it being slightly less accurate and having a longer zoom delay.

I'm just going by what the chart says. Perhaps the reason you are kicking butt with spec-ops is because you have played it so much and not because the gun is better.

Did you even read my post? Let me say it again since you didn't get it the first time. I don't want them to be much stronger than the default guns because that would unbalance the game and frustrate new players. And again, if you bothered to look at the chart you would see that while the G36C has the smallest recoil, its maximum deviation is the second highest of all the spec-ops guns.

Maybe the info on the chart is off, but the guy who wrote it seemed pretty confident with it and it does not seem that far off from what I have seen posted else where.

Because its an unlock not a special weapon, the g36c is the best weapon out there and screw what ever a chart says. Its all on who ever is shooting, if you dont play spec ops dont use it.

I do use spec ops. I just got my veteran badge last night. Why would I even bring it up if I didn't?

Re: What is the point of the Spec-Ops unlocks?

                      Let me elaborate...

The G36C is basically an M4 with less recoil. Which does make a difference in full-auto, the M4 is a nightmare to control. The M4 can be easier to aim with the scope, but that's about it.

The QBZ is more accurate, the AKS-74u is more powerful. Both DO make a difference, I will frequently pick the AKS when I know I'll wind up in close-quarters a lot, and QBZ is really a better gun overall: Same damage, higher accuracy.

The SCAR-L is less accurate than the G36C in exchange for a dot scope and 2 totally meaningless points of damage.

Without statistics and experience using the guns interchangably, everything else is moot. Most people select the G36C and forget the other guns even exist. Unlocks are usually better than the non-unlocks, but they're never just universally better.

Much better answer. Thanks. It just seems like the unlocks should be alittle bit more powerful/accurate/whatever to reward the players for their dedication, but its not my game so it really makes no difference what I think.

I like the SCAR-L. Sure there's no great difference between it and the other Spec Ops guns but for some reason, it "feels" better to me than any of the basic guns or the G36C.

It seems more like the unlocks give you a consistent weapon no matter what side you're playing on. Everyone knows the L96 is basically an M24 with a different sound, so why do people unlock it? Because the M24 is good but they can't always play on American. The G36C is a solid spec ops gun that you can use no matter what side you're on.
