Serious issue

I have just done a Windows XP re-installation.

After that I installed BF2/SF/EF in the following sequence.

1) Installed BF2 vanilla version
2) Patched it with 1.03
3) Installed Special Force
4) Patched it with 1.12
5) Patched it with 1.12->1.2
6) Patched it with 1.2->1.21
7)Installed EF

Almost the moment the "JOIN GAME" button appears, the game bailed me out with the following error I have never seen before:


"This server only allows players
with unmodified content to join
Revert your version of Battlefield 2
to the current official version to
join."


Can you please help me??

Maybe ur in SF or EF and u wanted to play in a BF2 server??

Negative! I was joining a Warlord map server.

download the 1.21 full and install it (shouldn't need to reinstall the game - just repatch)

should work after that.

Question: Why in the world did you install every single patch? You could have just downloaded the full 1.21 and that would have been that. Try and update your punk buster too while you are at it. Next timne use the latest full patch and save yourself a couple of hours and major headache. Silly children!

It's a historical problem. I had 1.2 before. When 1.21 came out and th egame had already been patched to 1.2, naturally I downloaded 1.21 incremental because it saved much time instead of the full 1.21 patch.

So should I re-install 1.21 and that will be fine?

The unmodified content can happen even with players that hasn't altered anything. It has happened to me once or twice but a restart of the game fixed that. It has happened to one or two of my clan members aswell but a restart didn't suffice and they had reinstall the game.

One easy sollution could be removing the BF2 directory from my documents.

It's weird. Everything worked perfectly before I re-install Windows and BF2.

Now BF2 vanilla version maps play out okay, EF maps ok. It's only no luck with all the SF maps!

try upsating punkbuster as well it did the trick for me

Just now, I have re-installed everything. I left out EF uninstalled. Now I am able to join BF2 and SF maps without any problems. PB is not a factor apparently.

I am thinking: should I install EF using the downladed executable and other files without using EA Downlader again. That was what I did last which ended up with all those problems about eh SF maps.

Shall keep you posted.

Hope you got this problem under control. My friend had to do a complete reinstall of the game because he bought EF and it would not let him play even after the incremental patch.

As your friend to use the Registry Edit, when he is going to reinstall. The uninstall function given by the game does not remove some 'residue' which reside in the registry under:

HKLM/Software/My Company Name

Under that entry, there are sub-entries which read something like "Battlefield 2", "Battlefield 2 patch 1.1", "Battlefield 2 patch 1.2",...etc.

Delete all the sub-entries and reboot before you reinstall. Hope it helps.
