Providing sniper cover after entering hover pattern

It's a matter of pilot skill I would say. But then I want to know, how many are truly keen in taking the risk of being fired upon by SA missile or chopper's AA missile to provide sniper cover for ground troop capturing a flag say?

First you must have a very good sniper, then the pilot must be really smart. I mean I have never seen ayone doing that as far as the play hours I have and I have never, touch-wood, killed by sniper bullet in the air.

i think he wants the ground-pounders to look out for snipers while he hovers so he doesn't get shot out of the chopper

I have found it nearly impossible to shoot a pilot out of the two-seat heli. I've had better luck snipering folks out of the fat heli.

I think the original poster means; Sniping from a Transport helicopter and by doing so giving ground troops cover.

And to answer your question, No I never have seen that. Maybe its something I have to try next time when I am playing.

Thank you for the elaboration. That's what I guess too. I have never done that myself. Cause everytime I want to shoot someone of the ground from where I was, the pilot generally ignored what I was about to do!

Was watching "Black Hawk Down" on the other night. Saw how the small bird fired at the skinnies. Also the Black Hawk has 2 Gunners right? The machine gun is pretty powerful (in the movie).

No one does that in this game, may be I should aos try that later but have to get better co-ordination with the pilot. I should use the VoIP for that.

I think it would only work if ground forces are engaging the enemy. If not you are just part of that big ol' target in the sky.

I guess Wake Island would be a good choice, allthough the J10's could cause a problem. So maybe its better to have the Airstrip before you try it.

I am of the firm belief that helicopters should be the ones supporting ground troops, not the other way around! They should strafe in a circular pattern and help take out any enemies on the ground.

Try not to worry about snipers shooting you down. It's next to impossible even on a perfectly hovering target. I think I've ejected 2 ENEMY chopper pilots in my BF2 "career" so far. They were moving too :)

If I had a dollar for every attack chopper I've shot down with the M95 I'd have ... $3. :laugh:

As for picking people out of the Blackhawk, I've probably done that 6 or 7 times.

It is insanely difficult to snipe from inside a moving helicopter, if that's what you were asking ... the thing just moves around too much.

I've tried sniping from a bh with a friend, even being on ventrilo it was extremely hard to pull off. It was hard to actually hit someone even while my friend was hovering nice and easy. In the end its pointless, just get on the mini. Or jump out.

Indeed, its almost impossible to hit a stationary target even with an assault rifle unless you are hovering perfectly still or very close to the target, let alone with a scoped sniper rifle. By far the hardest thing to shoot out of a moving chopper I think is the AT rocket, and I suppose the grenade launcher on the same principle, though I dont think I have ever tried. No matter which way you try to correct the shot, the rocket always comes out behind you (If you are moving) and coupled with its varying launch location, it never guides correctly, making near impossible to hit anything with consistency, and I mean like a small building, not a troop.
Its very noticable with the AT rocket, but I suspect that the small arm weapons suffer from a similar problem, though much less profound than what the AT rocket does.

You are much better off jumping out and parachuting onto a building to give cover than trying to shoot out of the hovering blackhawk.
