Re: Best way for new players to start?

I wouldnt worry about any special map, I would just join a squad and go from there. In a squad you can watch everyone else and learn plus the more experienced players will help keep you alive. Practice flying in lan mode. Start with the transport choopers thier the easiest to fly. Work on the attack choppers last. Then when ready, if you can fly for 10 minutes, Fire weapons, resupply yourself at your air field and switch between modes on Aircraft that has them. You are ready to try on line. I would try servers that are not full 16 or 32 player maps and avoid playing between 2 and 6 PM eastern time (time of day when most whineing and other BS happens).
Learn to ground pound first, in a squad, and the rest will be easier. Oh, yeah dont forget to keep coming by here to get the latest news and tell us how you are doing. You might have more questions we can help with also. Good Luck. . . . . .Red

Endo's Tips for Noobs. (having been one myself)

      1. Don't give ammo or medkits to snipers who are hiding. If they are behind something or lying down, they are hiding.

2.Don't revive someone who has just been shot until you shoot the guy that killed him.

      3. Watch the top of ladders for claymore mines. Hit c as you climb and you can watch in 3rd person.

      4. When in a vehicle, use the c key to change views around your vehicle to keep an eye out for engineers and special forces. They like to introduce you to thier explosive friends.

      5. When you play armor always use the engineer kit. Every vehicle you drive by or park next to you will repair automatically. So team up with an engineer who is in a tank, then you can repair each other as you shoot. Also carry troops into battle whenever you can.

      6. Map your pistol or knife to your center mouse button (or similar) so you can draw it in a split second if you run out of ammo in a face to face shootout.

      7. Practice your driving/flying skills on empty (or mostly empty) servers.

      8. Practice your grenade launcher and grenade skills in single player.

      9. NEVER shoot at a helicopter with a machine gun that isn't .50 caliber. It will just tell them where to find you. The .50 caliber weapon can be found on humvees, vodniks, and whatever those chinese trucks are called. Mounted machine guns and the one on the boats or dune buggies are 7.62mm and wont damage them enough. Tanks and APCs cannot be harmed by any small arms fire or machine guns.

      10. Learn as much as you can about BF2. Checkout www.secretsofbattlefield.com

Just do what I did, start the game jump onto any server and just satrt playing. I learned by trial and error. And also read the instruction manual that helped me with learning how to fly. :)

I would suggest playing few rounds in singleplayer, just to get a feel of the game. As far as learning how to fly, the best advice would be finding some empty servers to practise, until you learn the basic of flying. The rest of it will come by playing a lot, in time you'll get better and better.

STAY AWAY FROM KARKLAND thats realy realy bad advice people telling you to go on that map. If you dont know what your doing your going to get the guys that have spent hundreds of hours on that map killing you constantly as soon as you spawn wow .

My tips for you are Play as medic you can self heal so you wont die as much in game. Play in squads like someone else said and watch what everyone else does if your in a good squad theyll keep you alive and show you the ropes. Also when it comes to firing if your weapon is full auto try firing in burst dont just press and hold the left mouse button and use a whole clip on some unless there right infront of you. If you use bursts you will kill the person faster and use much less ammo

well thats if it was 1.12, but since we are 1.21, i suggest medic for quick ranks, but if this was 1.12, i would agree with spec ops c4 chucking and assault n00btubes! we dont hear them nowadays do we?

I just want to send a big thank you to everyone for offering their advice.

Like I said I've been playing games for 25 years or so and I know that new players can be frustrating for experienced players. Also, being new to a game can be a frustrating experience in itself.

After suffering so much agro with the patches and with getting Euro Forces installed, I just want to be able to learn the skills for this game and join in without becoming a nuisance to other players by getting in the way.

No kidding. Karkand on a 64 server is suicide for someone who is still uneasy with BF2.
