Yes, a Pentium II is lower than an AMD 64 4400. Much lower. A Pentium II would be a much lower spec than one of the old 1Ghz AMD Athlons by about half. Pentium II was introduced in 1997 and topped out at around 450 mhz. Since AMD has gotten away from using the (almost meaningless) measure of raw clock speed for processor labeling the 4400 roughly equates to a 4.4 ghz Intel even though the actual clock speed is slower than that. The problem is that most consumers have been so inundated with Intels marketing of clock speed that they don't understand it is one part of a larger hardware architecture equation.

but then someone took me serious and (to be honest) it turned into more trolling. my bad - i took a personal joke too far. I just got a giggle out of posting "you need at least a pentiumII". I got another giggle when I was taken seriously by another regular forumer.

I'm actually quite well versed in computers, as my sig may suggest.

I'll go back to my corner now.

What exactly does your sig suggest??? I remember some total dumbasss from DC days named troybob... but that's surely a different troybob.. I mean, he would have never tolerated a troll in the forums.. So what does the sig suggest?

No need to head to the corner. I can understand the desire to be a list troll on occasion. The more time I spend in internet forums the less civil that it makes me want to be. The signal to noise ratio is quite bad. But I try to "do unto others" until they have proven that something else is in order. That approach seems to work for me most of the time. I just wanted to know your intent, thus the question. If you were joking, I'd say "ha ha". If you're maliciously trolling then I'd say "get the f*ck" out. And if you plain just didn't know, I'd try to help you know

Makes me wonder if anyone out there is still using a Pentium II for anything other than a doorstop...

I think you've got a good set-up. I run at max settings with framerates pretty consistently over 60 (I get the occasional stutter, but its affect on gameplay is negligible). My set-up is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 3500 + 2.4 ghz
Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo
2 gigs Kingston Value Ram
EVGA gforce 7800 GT 256mb
Audigy II soundcard

Gameplay is great with this set up. You've got a slightly better system than mine, so theoretically, BF2 should rock.:)

I have the same setup but have 2 BFG 7800GTOC's and run everything on high with AA set to the highest settings and get almsot 100 fps on a full 64 person server.

Very similar to my setup. Mine is as follows:
AMD 3700+ SD OC'd to 2.8Ghz (Damn OC gives me BSOD problems w/ this game)
eVGA 7800GTX OC'd to 490/1300
DFI Ultra-D mobo
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC4000
2 x 80GB Hitachi HD RAID 0 (Boot Drive)
2 x 200GB Maxtor HD RAID 0 (Storage)
SB X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card
19" NEC LCD 8ms

System cost around $2500 including the monitor. Works FANTASTIC.
Everything on HIGH, including AA and AF. Just wish I wouldn't get BSOD's, but that's what I get w/ the overclock. I'll deal.

Your system is very similar to mine.
I WAS able to run at maxed settings, until the 1.21 patch.
Prior to the patch, I was seeing no less than 60 FPS with fraps.
Now, I have issues on 16 player Karkand when arty goes off.
I dropped my texture to medium, and it still does it.
I couldn't see a very big difference between high and med textures, though.
I just don't understand why my system suddenly got all weak on BF2 after
doing just fine prior to 1.21...
